Cross posted...My DH's cousin's daughter has the chicken pox...I would like for my 2.5 year old to "catch" them. But I also have a 1 month old...would it be ok for him to have them too? Anyone's dc have them this early? What was the experience like? TIA

Edited because I didn't read the post clearly.

I think it's unlikely that the one month old would catch chicken pox. Are you breastfeeding and did you have cp yourself?

Yes we are bf and I had cp when I was 18. While I had them, my 2 month old bf neice caught them. It wasn't that bad for her but she did get shingles later on (can't remember what age).

My dd got them at 5 weeks old. It was a very mild case, but the doc said that because she was so young it probably didn't give her immunity. He pushed us to vax her and we did You do the best you can with the information you have at the time. Sigh.

We decided not to get either child around the cousin. Thanks for the replies.

That was probably best. They are both pretty young. Besides, CP ist still around and when they vaccinate more and more kids, they'll come down with it and pass it on, so sooner or later your kids will get the immunity.

There is no hurry and it is not necessary to actually get them.
