No, I'm not a midwife and didn't move to Portland till 1998. The only midwife named Carol I know of is Carol Gray, who does craniosacral, etc., also.
I hope you'll start to feel yourself integrating into your new community soon. It's so hard! I'm not very good at making friends, but I forced myself go to LLL meetings to meet people and had two moms from there take the lead and call me up re: getting together. That helped me to get involved with a whole group of women who were their friends. If it hadn't been for them, I might still be sitting miserably in my home refusing to try to make friends, LOL! I don't know why it's so hard for me; partly b/c I have introverted tendencies, I suppose.
Anyway, this thread is great - thanks for starting it! I hope to read that book someday, too.
