First, I want to say that the OB I am using is great for me. I am going to continue to use her. She is so onboard with what I want for my scheduled csection and prenatal care and this is my last baby. However, unless someone I knew wanted to have a csection, I don't see myself recommending her to people I know. Which is really kind of sad.
I have known my OB for a long time. When I was a teenager, my mother had two friends who used a local midwife and the OB I am currently using did their backup care (went in 2-3 times, ultrasound, and just in case). She had children of her own and decided to leave her practice to be a SAHM. Something I really respected. I got to know her through my work, and then when I was pregnant with my youngest child, she was doing GYN part time and then started her OB practice up again. No one was at my appointment today so I had some time to sit and chat with her. It was kind of sad how she now feels about birth in general. She said her main goal in her practice was to have live babies and live mommas -- that her csection rate was around 30%, and that if a patient wanted this very natural childbirth experience, she probably wasnt the right doctor for them. She is totally against homebirth now (she didn't elaborate why) and she said she fully supported a woman's right to choose a csection (for no other reason than to want one). Believe it or not though, she does do VBACs, and supports women in having one (with monitor, IV and the like). I just found it all so surreal and sad.
I believe she has been spooked and that something greatly changed her way of thinking from all those years ago. I just found it interesting.
