Midwives interviewed! Mission accomplished, thanks to all!

I am so glad I interviewed several!!! I do love the British midiwfe though and she is who I will be going with. I am so relieved.

A lot the questions I asked I am happy to say they do not pertain to privately practicing midwives here. I am studying midwifery now and it is good to see the theoretical put into practice... and it's great to see that (private) midwives are able to use their own discrestion (sp?) instead of it being "procedural".

Questions regarding infant exam a total non-issue. She was shocked to hear that eye drops and Heb B immunizations are routinely given.

I have decided that I will definitely have a homebirth. The only thing I wanted at our local hospital (birthing tub) she can provide. (Yea!!!) She can deliver in the local hospital, birth centre, or at home though... whatever you fancy. Without an OB breathing down her neck.

She liasons directly with the Frauenklink (Maternity Hospital) instead of a specific OB b/c she gets more support from them an OB in private practice. Unbelieveable.

I am so beyond impressed. I was pretty happy with my son's preterm hospital birth, but this is more than I hoped for...

My insurance covers every dime of prenatal, birth, and PP care (including breastfeeding counselling for 1 year!!!!!) They will even pay for the rental of the tub. I only have basic insurance and that is the lowest class you can have.

There some days I hate Switzerland and I detest living here. It is nice to be able to say "I love their health care. I love the fact that I can do what *I* want as far as birth." That makes the crappy stuuf I have to deal with not so bad. I finally have something to say about Switzerland other than "It's so fç%*ing expensive here".

Thanks again ladies!
