cytotec and misoprostol are the same thing. It is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog it has equal amounts of 2 diastereomers it's intended use is to prevent ulcers or damage to the stomach lining via NASIDs. acts on smooth muscles- this is why it causes uterine contractions when used to induce labor it is an "off label" unapproved use
cervadil is dinoprostone, prostaglandin E2 (Prostin E2, Prepidil)- this is a synthetic preparation of a naturally occurring prostaglandin- studied and FDA approved for cervical ripening it comes as a vaginal incert with a tail that can be grabbed and removed used mainly for cervical ripening by stimulating local receptors also acts on smooth muscles
