Hi Mommas,

I am expecting my second child in May. We are having a homebirth this time and I am very excited about that. With my son we had a med-free hospital birth, but it wasn't really what the experience I wanted, as I did have an episiotomy and in general felt interupted.

Anyway, I haven't had/made the time to think, day-dream, ponder, worry, visualize this birth like I did with my first and am missing that. I'd be interested in any book ideas that you might recommend to get me into the mindset of birth again, particularly natural beautiful homebirth. I have Birthing from Within, Spiritual Midwifery, the Dr. Sears Birth Book, and the Bradley book.

Thanks!

I would recommend the new Ina May Gaskin book -- Ina May's Guide to Childbirth -- as well as anything by Sheila Kitzinger.

It sounds like you've got a pretty good list already: Ina May Gaskin, Sheila Kitzinger, Birthing from Within, Dr. Sears, Bradley - I assume "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way"?

They're a little different, but you might enjoy The Birth Partner or something by Klaus on Doulas (it depends on what sort of birth experience you are looking for - these might be more appropriate for your birth support).

My mind is drawing a blank on other books. If I think of them I'll come back.

In addition to reading, what about taking to the time to write? Write about what you want and expect and are looking forward to. Or write about whatever comes to mind.

Good luck!

I Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent!!! It's awesome & a quick read. I read it just before my last birth and the stories in it really empowered me during a very fast, intense experience.
