Question about Free Tiny Birds Soaker Pattern

Hi All,

I want to try to knit the Free Tiny Birds Soaker Pattern as appears here:

In the Materials Needed Jenny writes to use #5 knitting needles and suggested Cascade 220 wool as a yarn option.

#5 knitting needles - is that a US needle measurment ?
(3.75 mm)

because I checked the Cascade 220 wool

and it says 7-8 needle size.

Is that suppose to be thick yarn with smaller needles ?

It seems like 5s will take forever... I use 7s or 8s for the bodies of my pants...
