I need some info on car seats. My dd's ped informed me that she still needs to be in a 5 point harness. She is 3.5. She currently is in a high backed booster, but I don't feel like she's safe enough. That was before the ped said anything. So I was looking at some convertibles, 5 point harness, turns into booster. And all I could find said 5 point harness up to 40 lbs. Well, i'm not sure her exact weight, in August it was 35, so she could likely be close to 40 now. Are there car seats with 5 point harnesses for over 40 lbs? What should I get? We can't afford an expensive one. I might be able to get one up to $100, but preferably a bit less. Any ideas?

I know that you want under $100, but remember that if you get a good seat that you won't have to buy another one.... http://www.strollandgo.com/index.asp...OD&ProdID=2000 (the regular price on this one is close to $250 - but they have it on sale for under $210). this one is a 5 point harness to 80 lbs.

Britax is the only convertable car seat that I know of that holds weight past 40 pounds. The marathon and wizard both go up to 65 pounds. The britax husky goes to 80 pounds and is a very big seat. Doesn't fit in all cars especially if you have other car seats you need to have in the car.

Another tip, if you order a new car seat online.. Ask if they price match. I know of a few places online that price match other online stores.

Space is an issue also. I have a 94 Ford Taurus. In May I will have 3 car seats in the back. Not a problem with most car seats, but won't fit an unusually large one, too.

Hi Serenity,
I second the suggestion of the Britax safety seat line. I applaud the fact that you recognize that your child is not yet ready for a booster seat..now if we can find you a Britax on sale somewhere. I know they are expensive, but the price will even out as you will get years more use out of it. Here is a link to Britax's site.

I am assuming you are in the USA. If not, then click back and go to the appropriate country.
Here is the NHTSA site that lists most seats on the market and the ratings each received. This might give you additional ideas.

I will go through my bargain watcher sites and see who has the deals on the Britax's right now and come back and post.

This link might get you started comparing pricing. I chose the Marathon because it goes to 65 pounds and is not too large. Check out the link above I left on Britax and look through all of the 5 point harnessed convertible seats.

I really have always found arunningstroller.com to be VERY accomodating and she will price match (although she doesn't advertise it). I have ordered many times from her and I find her CS impeccable. (BTW I do NOT have an affliation in any way with this site..just a happy customer)

Good luck!
