Neti pot question

My nose gets stuffed up a fair amount, and I have been considering doing a salt water neti pot rinse. But I've never done it before and I'm scared. Does it hurt? What does it feel like? Any tips or advice? TIA!

No Neti users out there?

it is so easy, and it really works. Just have to make sure you make the right saline solution - too much or too little salt will burn. There are websites that describe how to do it, but best would be if you have a yoga teacher around who practices neti that could teach you how to do it. I learned in India where this teacher had us do neti 20 min a day before asana practice and it was really intense. any specific questions?

oh i noticed you're in CA. At Longs drugstore they sell this plastic botttle called the Sinus Rinse. it comes with packets of saline solution. It's not a Neti pot but it does the same thing. With a Neti pot you have to tilt your head and find the right balance to make it come out the other nostril (and not down your throat or out your mouth); with this plastic bottle you just squeeze it and thrust the water up your nose and it comes out the other nostril pretty much automatically.

I've used mine occasionally with good results. It really does work.

As already stated, you don't want the water too strongly or weakly salty. I think when I was doing it I put the equivalent of 1 teaspoon of salt into 1 liter of water, but you'd be better off to find instructions online than to rely on my memory.

Also, use kosher or non-iodized salts rather than iodized salt. Boil the water first then let it cool to make sure it's really clean.

I learned how to use a neti pot from one of my yoga teachers and it's great.

Here's some info...

Thanks!

Sphinx--I think my ENT gave me a sample of that rinse thingy you were talking about. Maybe I'll try that first.

My only real question was whether it was uncomfortable or painful. For some reason, thinking about pouring the water in my nose really wigs me out!

I'll try those links and muster my courage! :LOL
