Weaning Tea?!?!

What on earth is Earth Mama Angel Baby selling???

http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/no_more_milk_tea.html

An herbal blend meant to "slow or stop the production of breastmilk"?? "Drink 2-3 cups a day... when you are weaning your little one"?

Ugh!

I'm considering removing the link to their site that I have on my site.

it's for women whose babies are stillborn...

Then why does it say "drink 2-3 cups a day... when you are weaning your little one"?

Sometimes people do need to wean (generally for medical reasons), and having a tea like this might help. I have a friend who recently weaned her 20 month old because she had to go on a medication that absolutely, positively, was not compatible with breastfeeding and could have endagered her child.

If "weaning tea," and formula for that matter, were marketed only to people with medical necessity, I would not have a problem with either. But this item's description seems to encourage elective parent-led weaning. It doesn't even say IF you wean your little one, it says WHEN you wean your little one!

Perhaps she could do with a litttle constructive criticism about the wording. It may be a product that some unfortunate mama needs, but I don't care for the "when you're weaning" either...

oh, sorry. I didn't read the OP correctly or something. I thought it was just in their baby loss kit... last time I bought anything there that product was not in the breastfeeding category. Bad choice, IMO, but we all make mistakes. They have a "feedback" link, I think you can send email to them and let them know how it makes you feel.

Definatley let her know.

If you want other mommas to send in back up emails, I'd be happy to!

Maybe wording is off, perhaps " for mama's comfort when your little one is weaning" ?

That would definitely be preferable.

However, when weaning is allowed to happen naturally, herbs should not be needed. Generally kids cut back gradually, and the milk supply follows suit. If a mama is experiencing discomfort from weaning, usually that means it was done too abruptly.

Yup, I know from experience that when you allow CLW, your milk supply dwindles at a gradual weight. Not uncomfortable at all. Supply and demand! Nary a leak (not even a single drop!), plugged duct or anything when my dd weaned at 20mo (CLW) and I had OAL for over six months!

I'm sure in some cases a mom might have discomfort even with CLW, ex. if she has overactive letdown or other supply issues, but I wouldn't imagine it to be the norm.

Personally, I'd prefer to see it in the baby loss section and if listed in the BF section have it worded more like what "love my 2" said in a previous post. Does the owner of EMAB know about CLW?

she replied to my email! did anyone else send her one about this?

What did she say?

she thanked me for taking the time to contact them with my concerns. Said that the tea was originally intended for mom's who lost their babies, but that since they had gotten numerous requests for something to dry up milk supply (for whatever reason), they started offering it in the breastfeeding section too. She asked for suggestions on how to offer the tea without discouraging breastfeeding.

so in other words, they apparently want to continue to market the tea to women who want to dry up their milk, but they don't want to alienate those of us who find it offensive and anti-breastfeeding in general. I'm not sure I can see a way for them to do both, but maybe I'm missing something.

Hmm... yeah. Not much you can do to please both, I wouldn't think!
