question on bedrest for a friend

I have had 3 wonderful water babies, so what my friend is going thru sounds so un-natural to me. and i don't know what to tell her. here is whats going on:

My friend had her first daughter at 34 week,
So with her pregnancy now thru out the whole thing they have been really pushing the scare tactics about have another baby early on her. Well she is 31 weeks today and had her check up, she told the Dr, that she was having a lot of BH contractions and lower back pain, so the Dr. did a vaginal exam and told her , that her cevix was still long but starting to open up... ( idon't know if dr said she was 1 cm, but she says she is) so The Dr has no put her on full bed rest and she has to go in for weekly checks from this point on...vaginal checks EVERYTIME! and if by next week if shes still dialating they are going to start her on meds and if she won't stay on bed rest they will put her in the hospital!! (she has a 3 yr old and her husband works long hours~ so there is no way to stay on total bedrest!)

Anyway it just seems to me that her pregnancy is fine! and that checking her as often as they say they want to would do some damage its self!
anyway what do you think? should i just not say anything it just feels like the drs were planing this from the start of her pregnacny
(welli will support her no matter what,i know shes just scared of having a nother premature birth and she is just doing what shes told to do.)

DRs are more aggressive w/ moms who have had previous preemies. I had what I thought were just bh and backaches this time and ended up in the hospital w/ ptl at 34 wks. I was 2 cm and 90% effaced then. I had 2 stay 2 nights to be monitored and get the ctxs stopped. B/c I was 34 wks they were more lenient than had I been 31 wks. I was released w/ orders to take it easy (modified bed rest), no walking in the grocery stores etc. I had a 17 mos old at the time and a dh that was no help so it didn't last long. I rested when I felt the ctxs start and drank plenty of water. I released myself completely at 36 wks. My cervix didn't change till 37.5 wks, I had my ds 1 wk later. Who knows if it will happen again? PTL can happen for a lot of reasons that are not reocurring. I had a friend due win 4 days of me that had 'funneling' at 32 wks and put her on complete bedrest just for that. She ended up delivering after me and was induced to boot. Some DRs do go a little overboard. But as a mom who's btdt w/ the bedrest, the idea of having a preemie is very scary.
