fabric for dipes - best kind, where to buy?

I suspect I want hemp, for absorbancy. Hemp fleece... right? So would this be a hemp cotton blend, or would this be JUST hemp? Hemp jersey is not as absorbant, right? But a source still might be good. ALso terry vs. french terry... is regular terry more absorbant? Less? I assume it's thicker?

Has anyone ordered from this company?

Any other sources for good place to buy diaper material?

I used to have one place bookmarked but I lost it when we got a new computer. I think it was all fabric and run by a woman who comes here but that's all i can remember!

TIA

I've bought from here: Diaper Shop Great cs and fast shipping...
As far as what kind of hemp, you'll really have to try them yourself. Hemp fleece is very thick, but can pill. Hemp jersey is nice and stretchy and hemp terry is snappi'able. IMO, they're all really absorbant but hard to clean properly. You might want to give sherpa a try, or just a regular terry. Even an old towel. I love to use dh's old undershirts and polo shirts that are stained or torn. Free and stretchy...two important qualities for me!

You can try www.hemptraders.com to get hemp knit scraps for $5 per pound. This is the cheapest price I've seen hemp at. You can't pick what you get but it's all knits -- terry, jersey, fleece, etc.

Also, sewshoppe.com sells clearance fabrics, usually leftovers or stuff that got a small mark or hole in it. I check back often because it changes, but I snapped up a yard of hemp for about $7 plus some really cheap sherpa. The hemp has a tiny run in it and the sherpa had a smudge of something dark, but since I'm still learning to sew I'm just going to be making doublers and inserts so the flaws don't matter.

Hope that helps.

Okay, I'm really new to CD, didn't get into it until a few months ago. So forgive me if this is a dumb question....what is a coop and what is it for?? :

I've picked up some diaper fabric here on the Trading Post for a good price... people list PUL and microfleece etc. from time to time. Check it out. Also I will be receiving some precut diapers and extra fabric from a swap on the TP.

A coop is where one person buys fabric in bulk, cuts it and sells it at a deep discount to members of the coop. I like wild n wooly (google them if you want). I got some really nice hemp fleece from them and I didn't wait long at all.

I actually prefer sewzanne's fabrics (sorry, google this too. I don't know how to put a link in here) to sewshoppe. Sewshoppe has some really nice stuff but is not the cheapest place. I spend a lot of time at the sewing board at amitymama.com. There are lots of moms there who buy in bulk and have little mini coops.

Making Training pants for nighttime -- patterns and thin, absorbent fabric?

DD 5.5 wets, heavily, at night. She's been outwetting her MOE overnight undies and sometimes her pullups too. She's also a bit self-conscious when we sleep over family's house.

I have a thought, to make her some super-absorbent, yet trim, undies similar to the gerber ones maybe? Something that I can dye up in a cool color, that's thin and looks very close to regular undiesyet with a nice thick soaker panel inside. I don't want to add doublers or anything.

I want something lightweight, very absorbent, and that can be cleaned so it doesn't stink.

My thought is then to make her some jammie pants/shorts out of either felted wool jersey or a double-layer wool jersey (or interlock) to wear over the undies instead of a cover. I feel like this will make her feel a LOT better about nightwetting supplies and less self-conscious when out.

Anyone tried this? Is there a pattern for such undies somewhere (quick and easy would be best but I'll take what I can get)? Do you think it would work, and if so, what fabrics would you use? What about the cover?

TIA!
