Houston Area Diaper Party - THIS FRIDAY! - Page 2

I want to come! IF we want, I could talk to my church about borrowing a room. It is pretty central, in River Oaks. That way our kids would be the only ones there and we wouldn't have to worry about spreading out or cleaning up. BUt I will be there wherever it winds up being.

Oh no! Rats! Where in CA are you going to? I'm hoping to have this get together before we (maybe) move to northern CA. If we go it'll only be temporary, but I'll miss the mamas here!

Maybe I'll call Memorial City and see if they have anything we can reserve (though hopefully at no cost - I dunno that anyone wants to pay to come to a diaper party! :LOL). Otherwise, a church in River Oaks would work for me. Somewhere where the kids can't escape :LOL and we have space to chat and look at fluff sounds good.

yep, church in riveroaks sounds great to me too. Memorial City mall is most likely gonna charge us to reserve a room. But, sounds like Sam really likes that mall lol, (I've never been) so if we wanna meet there I'll show (and chip in)

Hey don't do the mall for me. Its just amazing how the mall looks now compared to what it use to look like years ago. I can't say that I remember seeing any place that we could "rent out" like the rooms down at First Colony.

A church in River Oaks would be nice too.

Yeah, I want to go to Memorial City just to see how it's changed! I can't believe the difference just in the stores listing. It looks like it's competing with the Galleria!

I'll call and see if they have something (though it's not listed on their website). But, I'm sure I can swing out there someday just to, I dunno, shop or something. :LOL

So, Gossamer, let us know what you find out about your church! That might be really ideal.

Would Friday, February 11th, work for everyone? Is that too far away? I, personally, have the next two Fridays booked, so another day of the week (Tuesday?) would work for me sooner. Other thoughts?

Yeah it definitely has that Galleria 'upscale' feel. We always went out there for the Build-A-Bear to avoid the Galleria or Baybrook. And the California Pizza Kitchen.

It's really a hop-skip and a jump using Beltway.

It is totally different from when I used to hang out and smoke with my grungie friends in highschool. It is very Galleria now. They have a two story wooden carousel in the food court now. It is really beautiful, and the also had a changing area with a rocking chair in it the last time I went. I was very impressed by that! It is so much nicer than it used to be. Of course that was a long time ago. They also have an ice skating rink with a large fireplace next to it. Really fancy.

I just thought taft street coffee house has meeting rooms I can see if any of them might be avaliable. It is an organic coffee house with a excectic christian book store and art gallery. If we wanted to swing another way. It is in Montrose on Taft St. ,Duh.

I just posted that we are trying to put a diaper party together on our yahoo group. I would be happy to bring info on how to sew your own diapers too.
Sorry to post again, but what do people do at diaper party's I have never been. I just assumed that you talk about diapers.
Ok, so y'all want me to check out my church? How many do we think will be coming?

I totally missed the thread. I am gonna post at the Houston Cloth Yahoo group so everyone knows we are chatting over here about getting together. I have to be honest and say I know I have been to Memorial City, but I can't for the life of me remember where it is. LOL! I think it is called 9th month stupidity. I am due any day now, but I certainly want to make it.

As for what a cloth diaper party is... it is basically like a play day but you get together with like minded cloth diapering moms as opposed to whatever other connection you may have. You are also welcomed to bring your fluff to show off or trade or whatever. I am warning you though...we have some true Hyenas in here.

It is a bummer we missed Kim "Foster sk" or now "Mama K" leaving though. She is visiting with family before she heads off to the mission fields. She left last week We'll miss you at the gathering Kim!

Let me know what is decided, I look forward to it.

Memorial City mall is on 290 near Beltway8. It really has had a very nice makeover. (Love that fireplace area!)

Yep, its a playdate with lots if chatting about diapers. :LOL And drooling over each others pretty fluff.

Ack! I can't believe you are so close Lea Anne. And on missing Kim. How long are they going to be in Ireland? A year?

Sam, you've been gone too long already. It's at I-10 and Gessner, just inside (east) of Beltway 8.

Well, I just checked with Memorial City Mall, and there are no party rooms or such. The lady seemed to think there were "partyable" areas in the food court near the carousel, but I dunno if that's what we're looking for. (I'd personally love to be able to sit around and talk fluffl without worrying if my kids have escaped! :LOL)

Taft Street Coffeehouse sounds interesting, too! I think I've heard of it but never been down there. Why don't we see what's available and when? As for number of people, it looks like we have 12 mamas interested at this point, plus kids (probably 12-18 kids).

So Gossamer and lpmeadows, let us know what you find out!

Anyone have thoughts on dates? I've suggested Feb 11, but Lea Anne might not make it that long. I'd be good for most any Tuesday, too.

Right after I typed that I was like... or is it I-10... :LOL I always do that.

Yeah, the sitting areas are really a little too "open" to let the kids run around.

Happy Monday, Houston mamas! Anymore thoughts on the party?
I'd be interested, too! Especially true since I'm a new mom and I really need to get out of the house! Fridays are good for me.

I just talked with the people at taft street and they won't have any meeting rooms avaliable till the second and third weeks in April. Which probably wont work out for us, but I am having them send their meeting room retal info to me for in the future.
