Organic cotton clothing?

Hi mamas!

I want to clothe DD in organic cotton. The closest we've come to organic is using organic cloth diapers at night time (we do EC and she is completely diaper free in the day time). I have had some trouble with finding organic cotton clothing that is semi-affordable and fits well (it is either too large or too small). DD is 4 months old. I have tried Under The Nile and Sckoon. Sckoon's clothes aren't made terribly well, so I won't be buying from them again. The pant's stitches came apart after one wash, the kimono's fabric is thin and the 2-6 month size doesn't even fit my DD (and she is a peanut)!

Where do you buy your certified organic cotton clothing from? Are the clothes true to size? Is the quality good?

TIA!

I only have one item from Blue Canoe (http://www.bluecanoe.com/store/), but I like it. I have the Jane's Plus Bra, which works easily as a nursing bra, tho it has less support than I like (I'm an underwire gal). Still, it's my "comfy" bra and the only one I would consider sleeping in. I recommend ordering on the small side, for bras anyway. They have yummy colors and dye each order as it is received.

They do have baby clothes: http://www.bluecanoe.com/store/viewC...gory=babyitems

My favorite online store, The EC Store, is doing a Blue Canoe preorder right now. You can order any Blue Canoe item and get 20% off if you buy through this link. http://theecstore.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=494 Even if the product you want isn't listed on the dropdown menu, just put it in your comments or send The EC Store an email and they can still put it in your order.

IMO one of the best things you can do is join a co-op. I am involved in several online co-ops and can't believe the deals I have gotten

If you can't find what you want, you can always buy the fabric and get a WAHM to make it for you! OC can be found at http://www.organiccottonplus.com/.

I've also been drooling over some of the clothing here: http://www.earthcreations.net

Hanna Andersson has some organic clothing. Also she carries clothing that goes through Oko-tex 100 testing. I forget exactly what it it is, but it has to do with meeting a series of European standards including being free of harmful chemical processing. Check out her site for better info on that.
Her clothing is not inexpensive however the sales are great and you can find her stuff on e-bay
Unlike Sckoon and imo under the nile, clothing lines I feel do not have the best quality, her clothing is very sturdy and extremely well made. Good luck!

I LOVE MY BLUE CANOE BRAS & UNDIES!! They are a bit pricey but totally worth it IMO and they hold up thru many washes!

I second the Hanna Anderson suggestion. We LOVE the quality of their clothes. It's worth the extra money. They are not SUPER expensive, but not cheap either. I just got their recent catalogue and they have some adoreable cotton sets for around $35 dollars (pants and shirt).

www.sagecreeknaturals.com

There clothes are adorable, well-made and fit pretty much true-to-size. My little guy has a lot of stuff from them. Their prices aren't too bad either. They also have grab bags for a set price. You don't get to choose what they send but you do get a deal on the clothing. It's usually last years stock that they are clearing out. You can specify whether you want boy/girl/unisex clothing.

I've gotten some great stuff through their grab bags- the only problem is they seem to run reeeeeeaaallly big.

yeah, I do find that with their sleepers. Their pants fit great though and I just roll up the sleeves on the long-sleeve onesies (they tend to fit my guy fine in the body but the sleeves are too long). Everything else fits great on my little guy.

Oh - I love surprises! So, can you tell me how much stuff you get for the price? I.e. what should I expect to see in a $50 grab bag?
I'm not sure about the $50 grab bag. I got the $100 one and I got:

2 pairs of pants
5 short sleeve onesies
1 long sleeve onesie
1 sleeper
1 vest
canvas bag

I think that's everything (I can't double-check because ds is sleeping). I love surprises too. I was so excited when my package arrived!

So about $10 a piece. Good deal! Thanks!

I registered for a Sage Creek grab bag for my shower. I got:

one long sleeve t-shirt
one outfit - long sleeve t-shirt and cuffed pants in a teddy bear pattern
long-sleeved onesie

They are 3-6 month size and fit my 12 lb 1 month old, but are a little big. They'll fit him for a while (except the onesie, which won't fit over his cloth dipes much longer.) He is generally wearing 3-6 month clothes, so I'd say the size is true.
I would assume it was the $25 bag.

I got some organic socks from www.ecovogue.com They sent me an extra pair of newborn socks for free. They weren't first quality, but work fine...they just have elastic hanging. I keep meaning to fix them, but haven't yet.

Try www.elliebelly.com. She sells on eBay and has clothing for both babies, big kids and adults.

Thanks for all the suggestions and links! I'm off to have a look.

annettemarie, which co-ops have you joined? I don't know where to find one.

Someone posted the question about organic clothing a while back and I took away this from the thread...

Used regular cotton clothing is pretty much free of "bad" stuff b/c it has been washed and used on someone else. It is a good alternative to a complete organic wardrobe which can be very expensive.

Just something to think about

Try searching yahoogroups. A lot of the lists are pretty careful about who they let in because of people who "tattle" to companies about co-ops.
