Detergent Alternatives?

Thread Starter
I recently tried washing my diapers in just baking soda (rather than baking soda plus detergent) and they came out great- they actually smell BETTER this way!!

Do you think this would work on the rest of my laundry? I wash diapers in hot, everything else in cold. Anybody have any experience with this? How does it work on stains?

If not, any other ideas for inexpensive, chemical-free laundry?

I once tried washing some clothes in baking soda only and it didn't work at all. They smelled bad.

However, since then, I've started washing my hair and face with a baking soda solution, and it works great! So I wonder why it would work on my face but not on clothes.

Or maybe I just didn't do it right that first time and should try it again. I would love to have a good alternative to detergent.
