Hi guys - Tminus 2 hrs. and still no name. We're leaning toward Orson, but it sort of rhymes with our last name, which is kind of weird. Hmmm.

Ann - I think of you lots, and hope that you are finding support in friendships on your tough days. There are ALWAYS going to be tough days, but finding someone to talk to about it did help me. Hang in there! Your baby looks wonderful, you are doing an AWESOME job! I can only imagine how busy you must be every day! Try to be sure to find 20 - 30 minutes early, late, before dinner, sometime during the long day for yourself. Sit w/headphones and listen to some nice music, or go for a walk alone, or something... be good to yourself! and know that you have lots of here with us.

CONGRATULATIONS MEGAN!!! I think it's so wonderful that she is finally home with family - you must be one proud Mama!!! She did an amazing job getting big and being healthy. I am so very pleased for you all! Don't stress about the mntr. - it's not forever and it'll keep the stress of worry down a little, too. Is she sleeping well? Are you bf'ing? I know how hard that must have been - 3 1/2 mos. in the hospital!!! WHEW! Congrats again!

Az - WTF is RIGHT! I guess they have to fall w/in that weight range OR ELSE, lady! No fat babies at THAT bc. Sheesh. Don't get too peeved. Just try to laugh it off. I got a letter from my health ins. co. that said I was covered to enter the hospital for birthing on the 26th Jan 0:00AM to 28th Jan 11:59pm... HUH??? My EDD was a week before that, so DOUBLE HUH??? We just laughed. Dh is a big help in that dept., because he has a great big bearish belly laugh that is TOTALLY contagious. So once he starts, it's easy to just follow along...'course he still laughs at 3rd grade bathroom jokes

That's a good suggestion Heidi - would we need to have readjusted our boiler temp, which is set I think at like 115? I think hot in our washer isn't even that hot, it's more like around 104/5 (for whites). That def. didn't work last time. sigh. I used cloth wipes too. no big deal, 'cause they're WIPES FGS...who looks at whether wipes are stained??? I think some people are seriously derranged when it comes to everything being perfect and clean-looking for babies...who made the darned mess in the first place!!

Nicole - maybe it's time for a little heart to heart with dh. You should let him know you appreciate his flexibility (that's positive, isn't it! ) but that you REALLY need his support for as long as possible on the cd/bf'ing issues. It's fine for him to have suggested (ONCE) that he's ok with doing things differently, but now that you have let him know that you are really wanting things to be THIS way, he could just support your decision to go there together. And a little HELP in the laundry dept. would be cool, too! These are best for Slim - I love the name!!! We've got a slim one here, too... what to call him... T-1/75 hrs...

Ok, best get back on line and check out more names. Sometimes I think that just makes it harder, like trying to choose ONE new shampoo. Best to go to someplace that carries like 3 brands (oily, normal and permed) and pick what fits, rather than the supermarket with their 106 brands each with a specific Ph balance and probiotic supplement...eesh.

LOL!!! Andy

Congratulations Karen!!! I can't wait to hear more about your sweet little guy :

Welcome home Megan! Gosh, that must feel SOOOO wonderful to have her home with you

Jessi, so cool about all the knitting you're doing. I'm jealous! I think you asked earlier about knitting in the sling, and I think it's definitely do-able. I haven't yet, but when she's sleeping snug inside I'm sure it would be as easy as anything else that I do hands-free. Maybe I'll dig out the needles later today and give it a go! If nothing else, I can make us some new dishcloths...

I *finally* finished Brynn's birth story.... all 5 pages of it in Word! When I told my Mom how long it is, she said "5 pages? I thought you had a quick labor!" :LOL
I'll post a link to it soon

Horray Karen! Baby was just waiting for dh to be around I can't wait for the details

Sweetpeasmom, thats great the Megan is finally home. You must be so happy.

Andy, be sure to let us know what name you end up settling on. I'd like a name to go with the little guy.

Oh the baby weight thing is fro mthe hospital not the bc. The mw say growing them big is a good thing. Two weeks ago there was actually a 10lb 5oz baby boy born there a few hours before my appointment. It was the mum's 2nd and her first was 6 something The thing that really got me mad about that is that some poor woman pg with her first is going to remember that and be freaking out when her baby is born outside of the range thinking something is wrong with her baby, or her. That could have been worded so much better like most babies are born weighing between X and X

I know there is someone else I wanted to respond to but I'm pulling a total blank and rereading all the post is just not appealing right now.

My belly fat is killing me right now. I don't know if this happend to anyone else, but most of my fat ended up right at the bottom of my stomach. It like this gross turkey neck effect and it hurts. It only started hurting a couple of days ago but today it is killing me. It feels like it is trying to rip off my body. I had to put pants on today becuase my belly keeps sticking to my legs.

DS had no school again today, so I am going to go paint with him

the thing you have to be careful with when it comes to hospitals and birth weight is the blood sugar thing. the standards were non-existent as far as actual blood counts, but i think that they have developed an actual standard. mostly though, they say that a baby under that range or over that range is seriously at risk for a drop in blood sugar, so they want to give glucose water and then put babe to breast. as a LLL leader I have met lots of women who've had this experience. with my first (9'12'') I was talked into formula for a few hours and water for jaundice (treated at home with bili-blanket) and i had been attending LLL meetings for months. thank goodness he was a champion nurser or we could have had lots of latch issues. sometimes with big babies they teach the nurses that it could be undiagnosed gestational diabetes too and treat you differently.

oh well.

i had a friend ask to stop by sunday and I agreed saying that dh was going to work in 45 minutes (she was at the nearby park) expecting she'd play for a little while and then stop by. instead she was there in five minutes interrupting family time (pretty precious around here) and after a half hour she announces that she has been treating herself for LICE since thursday, but she's "sure they're all gone." SURE? now i am having psychosomatic itching...so frustrated. then when she left her daughter vomited just outside my apartment and she came back to clean up. she lives a mile away and I did not want my kids around the vomit.

i told dh i had double checked his schedule and that he did not work last night and three hours after he was supposed to be at night job we realized he was on the schedule. i had been having painful contrax, though, and was so tired. i had to cancel my LLL meeting last minute and i am a lone leader. i was NOT sorry he was home , and his job is not in jeopardy for which i am thankful.

he works tonight but has tomorrow eve off and friday eve too....pretty nice!

Lice! ST, that's horrible! Just what you need to deal with now. Not a very thoughtful friend, there.
Glad you have your DH around when you need him.

I'm terrifically sleepy today. Wish I were at home taking an all-afternoon nap.

Congratulations, Karen and happy birthday new baby boy! Guess all the talk about the full moon was right!

Hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Mamabeca: we call him Slim for 2 reasons. 1) our very good friends and Will's godfathers joked around at the beginning of my pregnancy about who the father was. There was never any question, but they were just teasing. They said they were going to call him Slim Raul. That is where slim orignally came from. 2) He is definately not slim. He is gaining weight like a champ.

yaay karen, yaay laura, 2 wonderful things to read about today!!!

my poor babe has a super red bottom, we're lrtting her air out for the afternoon, but yikes, it looks so painful!

she nursed 11p-3a last night and then slept 4.5 hrs. now if only i knew how to move that up a bit, say nurse from 8-12 and let me sleep some at night

and i have to add that i'm awfully envious of the mamas here who are up and about and managing to get online and take walks and everything else, i can't quite figure out how to even get her off my breast long enough to pee

We got some really good news today about Will's medical condition. The pediatric cardiologist presented his case at Phoenix Children's Hospital, and they agreed with her assessment that we should continue to just monitor him for now. We know eventually the surgeries will have to happen, but for now, we are just letting him grow and get bigger and even stronger. This is such fabulous news!

Hey now - whew - what a LOOOOng day. We went shopping, and baby slept through it like such a great champ...I was very happy, although prepared to nurse in the front carrier (which worked GREAT but never tried to nurse in it). Then came home, nursed, got dd off the bus, and then had to go to COURT for a speeding tix, which was SO ugly (and get dd to dance). Just for showing up w/5 day old baby I did get the charge dropped from speeding to a parking infraction and no points, which was a good thing. Still had to pay, which sucked. Finally finished up at 6:30, had dinner, nursed twice (before and after), and I'm so SO tired now...and kind of bleeding more than I should be, more than I was, so I'm not long for the puter, and heading straight to bed with ds.

DH and I finally settled on Orin Clarence. He's a fairly gentle soul, not too giggley, not too serious, and I think the name works well for him. I don't know what it means, or if it means anything. We didn't want to spell it with 2 r's because of Orrin Hatch and his politics, but I do love the name and dh said ok, since we were DRIVING TO DO THE CERTIFICATE - I guess with a little pressure, the gig was up; and Clarence was his granddad's name, and also his dad's middle name (died just before dd was born). So we're keeping something alive with that, which I also love.

Karen - I'm sorry my foggy brain missed the BABY BOY part of your mssg. I am so glad you had a healthy baby, I think, that I missed that part entirely! It is a special mama-son thing, this bonding. It's very different than I had with dd, which was more intuitive. This is more ... it's just very different; hard to put into words.

Scat - OMG - LICE!!!!! I'd be very tempted to commit a serious crime if someone did that to me. You are a better woman than I!!! what a cruddy thing she pulled, with a sick kid (which ok, she may ot have known THAT would happen...) in tow. Ok, I'm going to go finish my tea and crash. But oh Lisa, you just learn how to bf and type w/1 hand each! HA!!! LOL, andy

And congrats Nicole on your own great news!!! I'm glad teeny baby doesn't have to go in just now.

HUGE HUGS

there's something to be said about that full moon thing....

i had barely convinced dh to come home at 3pm and i was at 10cm at 5pm when midwife arrived. i snuck up to pee when she was gathering supplies and had to yell help from the bathroom. i thought my rectum was falling out or something and there was his head!

one or two pushes, can't remember and out flew my little guy:

9 lbs 4 oz Asher, born at 5:25 on 1/25 with a head full of hair (that better not get lice....)

going to rest soon. i love him lots and he's a champion nurser. little guys doing headstands for him for a few hours and now sleeping soundly.
