Boy was I impressed! I'm planning a homebirth but wanted to see where I would end up if I had to transfer for any reason. I did transfer after my son's birth and we brought my daughter in after her birth. So hopefully third time's a charm and I won't be going anywhere. BUT
The hospital here has a "Family Birth Center". All rooms are private and have jacuzzi tubs that easily fit two people. They have no hospital policy against delivering the baby in the tub if your care provider wants to do it. They have a midwife group that works in the center and they often deliver babies in the jacuzzis. They have a large sink to bathe the baby after birth and a scale and a warming bassinet next to the bed. They basically never take the newborn away from you except to do the hearing test before you go home. They call their rooms LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Post-partum).
They also have a fully stocked refrigerator with puddings and juices and other snacks for the laboring mom. There is no hospital policy against eating or drinking during labor. Whew!
I didn't during the c-section area or the NICU because I had my son with me and he was hungry. But I loved what I saw.
