Help me identify this book!!

It's driving me nuts. I can't find it on Amazon or google and I'm going crazy!!

It's a children's chapter book, maybe 3rd or 4th grade level, can't remember when I read it. It's about a witch who baked really incredible brownies, but told the children in the story they could only eat one. Then, when she wasn't around, they started sneaking more and more brownies and, with each brownie, something weird would happen until eventually, after the fourth brownie, the boy turned into a mouse.

Does anyone remember this book?? Please?

I don't know the book, but this site has a "stump the bookseller" section where people will send in descriptions like the one you just wrote and the people find out what it is. You might browse around to see if you can find it.

That sounds a little bit like "The Witches". Although in "The Witches" the witch feeds a boy a chocolate bar which changes him into a mouse.

Here's how I would find the book. I'd go to the public library, which now has computerized card catalog, and search children's books for (subject) "witch, brownies, mouse"

edited to add: Roald Dahl wrote The Witches

Found this for you at abebooks.co.uk Booksleuth

"Witch Brownies
I remember reading this book when I was younger (late 70s, early 80s). It involved a witch who lived near or next door to some kids. She made brownies that gave those who ate them special powers or abilities (for instance, I remember one boy turning into a mouse after eating a few). The witch told the kids they should never eat more than one a day, because if they did strange things could happen. - Joe in Provo, Utah, USA

Hope that answers it for you!

Oh wow, MaggiesMom! Thank you! That's definitely it!

Jennifer Z--I had tried the site you suggested, found it in my searches on google. And, in looking through it, I found the name of another book I had been thinking about (The Magic Tunnel) and the name of a series I had enjoyed (Katie John), but it didn't have the right witch book. Or, I didn't look in the right place.

Whew, I feel better. That had been bugging me. Especially when I couldn't find it in my searches.

I read that when I was in 3rd or 4th grade! I remember ordering it through Scholastic and the day the book orders came in, I read the WHOLE thing at lunchtime! :LOL Fun book, thanks for the blast from the past.
