Keep on following your child's lead and your own heart and instincts! You're doing GREAT! You know your child the best, and your child knows his NEEDS the best. He obviously has a need to nurse at night, and you are meeting that need. Whether that need be comfort, nutrition, or a combination of the two!
I have nursed all three of my children. Two continue to nurse. My oldest nightweaned at around a year old. My second at 18 months old. My third continues to night nurse at over 2.5 years old. Each child has different night time needs.
If I were in a similar situation, I would ask the "professional" what information and research she has to back up what she's telling me. Maybe then she would realize that she doesn't have any real sources for this info and would maybe try to educate herself a bit more (I can dream, can't I!?! :LOL)

I think it's a government kinda thing that's there to make sure kids from 0 - 3 years get appropriate medical check up and vaccination and stuff.
