Washing Quilts with Wool Batting

Hi,

I'm making some quilts and I'd really like to use wool batting. My only concern is that the quilt would not be machine washable. Does anyone have experience with this?

I have heard from someone who said that batting can't felt because it's not knit or woven into a fabric. She also has a wool batting quilt that she says is machine washable. I guess I just want more input since wool batting is so much more expensive and it would be such a shame if it ruined my quilt!!!

Thanks

I have never used it but heard that it quilts beautifully, is very drapable, and washes just fine on delicate cycle/ cold.

Very true. Also if you wash the batting on HOT and dry on HIGH, before you make the quilt, the wool batting will felt slightly. It makes it loftier, and I think it will hold up better on future washes. You could even wash on a warm, gently cycle. It's very nice to use.

Viv you could use cotton batting too. It is much cheaper and it doesn't felt that is for sure.
