Would anyone be interested in a teacher?

Just a question: DD is 4.5 and will start kindergarten next year. I am a teacher in our public school system, and it is wretched, and I mean, we-are- #50-in-the-country wretched.

I have decided to try to homeschool her, but I need to get a couple other kids to round out a "class," and also to pay the bills; I was thinking maybe a 4th and a 2nd grader and maybe one other (depending on the kids and their needs). I would charge the other kids, but provide all books, supplies, etc, including regular "report cards" that follow the state standards (at least; I'm sure they'll be ahead) and show that their student is progressing. We'd also have plenty of field trips, etc. In short, students would get an excellent educational experience in an extremely personal setting.

I'm not soliciting families from MDC (although you can PM me if you want more info!!), but, in theory, as parents who send their kids to school, does this sound like something you would be interested in? I have six years experience, a Master's degree in education and am labelled "Highly Qualified" by the No Child Left Behind Act. I also have a gifted endorsement on my certificate and am working on another reading endorsement.

This is sort of an informal "feasibility study;" I want to see if it sounds like a reasonable thing to go for. Any feedback is appreciated!

I am a teacher too, and when I first graduated from college, was offered a position homeschooling one other boy. So it's not the same situation, but there are people out there looking for alternatives.

If that were available in my area, I would take advantage of it for certain years when the teacher that is available in our small country school is not to my liking for one of my children. I also think others would be interested in that option. It's an interesting idea!

I am called at least twice every year from a couple of the homeschool co-ops in our area because they are looking for someone to teach English/comp classes for them. A good friend of mine who teaches graduate religion courses also teaches sociology classes for another homeschool group. So check out the homeschooling groups in your area. They'd probably love to have you!
