For those with snap presses that work with wool, come here!

I think the industrial size 20 snaps may be to strong, LOL. They are super strong-Once snapped, they are so hard to get unsnapped. I am afraid that the pulling required to open them will rip them out of delicate unfelted wool. For those that use a snap press for wool covers, what size/type do you like best? I may order the standard size 20 if they come apart easier. I need a strong snap, but I want them to come apart easier so that there is minimal damage to the fabric. WIth these, pulling and inserting your nail in to open them is not cutting it-you have to yank! HELP! Should I get the standard size 20, or, 16 or what?

I use the long prongs and I haven't had a problem getting them apart when I needed too.

Oh! I guess I was not clear, LOL. I don't want to rip them out of the wool, I am talking about everyday use-snapping them on and off and on and off. They are so strong and secure that the mere un-snapping seems to be too much stress on the wool. Does that make sense?

No, you make sense!

My Freshies single layer wool jersey wrap has size 16 snaps, no reinforcement or anything. My sugarpeas wool flannel has two layers and size 20 snaps. Does that help?

where do you get your snaps from? i dont have any difficulty snapping/separating my size 20's from thesnapstore.com. i use them on my diapers, PUL, & wool covers.

you are applying these yourself? I had the same problem when I first used size 20's. I find I have to press harder to get a less secure snap. some of my first ones were almost impossible to unsnap!

What I'd suggest is take two pieces of the fabric you are working with, and fold them to get your layers. Press one piece with several studs, pressing from lightest to hardest. Repeat on the other fabric with sockets. Then snap and unsnap them with all the others and find the combination you need to make the appropriate 'pop'. You may find you need moderate pressure with one but very heavy pressure with the other...or heavy for both...or whatever works out for you . With my 16's I find if I don't press hard enough on the stud my snap is very weak. With thin layers I really need to wail on the stud piece when I press. YET if I press too hard on the socket it's a weak snap as well.

HTH!
