i just read The Temple of my Familiar by Alice Walker and it was a fabulous , engrossing read. the beginning seemed a slow start but this book really changed my perspective on the world, even though it is fiction. its really wonderful, insghtful, imaginative and even somewhat mystical if thats not too cheesey a word. theres alot of history mixed into it as well, and alot of cultural research was obviously put into it.
a light fun read is the harry potter books! they are super good , especially after you get past the first 2 books which are a quick read...these books really suck you in, so if you are looking to be absorbed they really are fun
oh another one is "lakota woman" which is an autobiogrophy of mary crow dog. ohhh is her name right? i am so sorry if i have forgotten it. its sort of depressing but its real life, and also really insightful, educational
for a funny book try anything by David Sedaris...he is hilarious and i cant think of the book i read of his, but he writes these great personal essays that crack me up so much! just stuff about growing up, traveling, life, embarrassing moments, quirky stuff..its really good...
ETA i am a fast reader but it took me about a week to read the alice walker book ( i think its 400 pages) , it took me about 4 weeks to get through the entire harry potter series , and the other 2 books are alot shorter than that. another idea i just had for you is get some audio books and take up crochet or knitting...so you can really relax and be making something at the same time...just an idea..i have been sick for long periods a few times and i like feeling "busy" or that i am "accomplishing things" ...it seems to help me stay positive cuz i am really active and hate being stuck in bed...anyway thats just what i like i know its not for everyone
