When I dropped dd off at school the other day, I couldn't beleive how "babyish" the kindergarteners looked!!!
FWIW, my 3yo nurses PLENTY but not at school and rarely in public- he's just too busy with all the exciting things in the world to want to stop and nurse. I do try to redirect him if he asks to nurse in public, but if he insists I'll still nurse him almost anywhere. From the time he was 8 or 9mo I would usually offer him a drink and/or a snack first if he wanted to nurse in public.
The Hebrew School (located in a Synagogue) my girls go to offers simultaneous Adult Education. They also offer babysitting for ds but often the babysitter isn't able to make it and ds comes into the adult class with me. I sit near the back (the AE classes are given in the Sanctuary) and nurse Jack as much as necessary to keep him quiet and happy so I can hear the Rabbi!! After the class, I've had many people comment on how quiet and "good" he is during the class :LOL I don't hide the fact that I'm nursing him but I don't advertize it either. The only time I felt uncomfortable nursing him there was during school vacation when there were about 3 families there (instead of the usual 20 or so.) We were sitting right in front, in full view of the rabbi. So, when he demanded to nurse, I picked him up and took him to a seat near the back where I was a little more hidden (but I could still hear the lecture) and nursed him there.
The oldest nursling I met IRL was about 6 or 7 when she weaned (though I didn't meet the family until she was about 10.)
