Cleaning Up, by Barry Minkow -- anyone?

Some twenty years ago I recall a young man in LA had a carpet cleaning business named Barry Minkow.

He was only about twenty years old and was a millionaire already.

A head for business?

He was actually involved with organized crime, served time, and now works with rehabilitating criminals and I heard he runs a church (?) in the San Diego area.

Anyway, has anyone heard of this book or read it?

Hi! I have read his book and I very much enjoyed it. I also attend the church where he is now a pastor. I have not gotten to know him personally but I do enjoy listening to him speak and he is a great writer as well.

Thank you for posting!

I was a property manager in the 1980's when he began hitting the news, and I was always on the lookout for a carpet cleaner, and he caught my eye...

He was from the San Fernando Valley, here in Los Angeles, as I recall.

Anyway, he fascinated me! He was so ambitious and outgoing, yet, he got caught up with the wrong crowd and he took the fall....

And, welcome to Motheringdotcomdiscussions, calypso, I am honored that you have posted on my thread first!

Good luck and love to you and your family.

I'll get the hang of this posting thing soon....promise

Hello again! Last night I had just gotten back from church and I was looking up some info. on Barry Minkow, so that is how I got here. I've only been to that church a few times now but I plan to continue at this point. I hate to admit it but I am more of the skeptic when it comes to the people that make up the church so that is why I read his book. He does take full responsibility for what he did and is still paying restitution to the victims. I dont know about the "head for business" because it really was a huge failure from the beginning. Like I said, I don't know him as a person but it sounds and looks as if he is no longer that boy in his past. It also fascinates me that he was a practicing jew and now a christian...not something I've seen too often! He has a well rounded perspective and a strong presence to deliver it. I also found out on my info. search last night that he has a couple of other books and has founded a fraud detection institute. Anyway, just thought I would share that with you, applejuice. BTW: I love Barry Manilow!!

A nice, practicing Jewish boy who starts his own religion -!

Sounds familiar ,

Tony Alamo, aka, Eric Hoffman.

or

Jesus ?

Just joking. He sounds sincere, and I hope he is. And if you are skeptical of the people who make up the church, just keep it a healthy skepticism. Church should be a place where people can have a community of an extended family of like-minded friends. You eat, worship, study, raise families, and party together.

G-d bless you in your life and search.
