The only film in which I like Natalie is The Professional.
But, Garden State didn't suffer because of her. JMO

I thought it was really good, dh liked it but thought the ending sucked.

How is that for important and critical analysis?

I like the tempo and wierdness of the movies - like his life was so odd at the beginning, but changed as he did through out the film...

I liked it. It seemed weird, but then it also seemed like those people/situations could actually be happening somewhere. kwim?

And I have a crush on Natalie Portman.

I saw this movie yesterday and LOVE it!

Awesome soundtrack, great acting & directing, wonderful storyline. I can't wait to watch it again this weekend with dh.

I've always loved Zach Braff from Scrubs, but now am even more fond of him.

I liked Natalie Portman in the movie 'Beautiful Girls'

WAHHHH. i'm the dissenter. i thought the plot was so so typical. i think zach braff (?) must just wish that would happen to him.

here is the formula: dull/boring/messed up guy meets pretty/quirky/funny girl and she falls in love with him in spite of his dullness and saves him and makes him interesting/funny/quirky.

come on! how many movies do i have to watch with that plot ! at least in eternal sunshine kate winslet's character pointed it out to jim carey's.

Okay, we'll have to agree to disagree then. I didn't think that Braff's character was boring at all. The fact that he gets off the medications is what makes him more interesting later in the movie. I like that both Portman's character and Braff's were both quirky and odd, together, you know?

ugh-i couldn't stand her in this. i just didn't buy her whole "i'm so kooky and eccentric' act.

I LOVED this movie!

I really liked it too. I would have never guessed that Braff had this kind of talent. I just thought he was a schlub on Scrubs.

bump!

Actually, I think his character in Garden State, Large, was much more of a schlub than his character on Scrubs, J.D. JD's much more goofy and fun; Large was so sad and poignant.

That being said, this is one of my new favorites movies. It just hit a nerve, or touched me, in a way I can't describe. I also have a crush on Zach Braff, which started when I saw this film. Plus, he's from my home state of New Jersey, so what's not to love.

The commentary by Zach and Natalie Portman on the DVD is one of the best I've listened to (yes, I'm a "commentary" geek!), and he really describes his character's metamorphosis well. It's fun to watch him open up and "blossom" throughout the movie, once he's off his medication and back home.

I think Garden State was okay. I was not impressed by it at all. I felt the plot was lacking and the romance was devoid of any real chemistry. It was predictable and at time boring. Sorry to y'all who liked it - I was just not feeling it!

Dissenter too. It was like one long music video. The trailer was better than the movie.

it was alright. it wasn't that great.

Alright- This is one of my new faves. To think of what this boy must have gone through for his entire life trying to make his mother happy and then the accident to put her in a wheelchair. Then to go through the metamorphosis to come out of the fog and realize the reality of the situation. I thought it was a great commentary about anti-depressants.

I thought the chemistry between the two main characters portrayed real life more than anything. For her to be that quirky was for her to really be herself. If we really let ourselves go, we would all seem that weird. Or so I think
