That seems high- does it include labor and installation? If so it might be on target. We estimated $25,000 in just materials for a 5 KW system- getting the materials at the lowest cost we could. (We can't do this now).

Desiree, one way to do it incrementally would be to do a grid tied system. That way, you would only need to purchase a grid-tie inverter and as many solar panels as financially within reach. You could have as few as one, even, and still be putting power into the grid, albeit not much. Later, you could add more panels.

Outback, Trace, and Sunnyboy are a few companies that make grid-tie inverters.

Thanks for that info! I am going to look into that.

Monnie- Yes, that includes installation. That would be my total out of pocket. Dang I was hoping it would be around 15K! LOL Guess I better keep saving! LOL

You should totally be able to do a starter system for 15k, esp. with Cali's good rebate program. I'll ask DH this weekend a ballpark figure for the inverter (he prefers Outback; it's what we have and love) and a few panels.
