up w a hurting child....

Oh my baby is hurting. He's 3. I am holding an icepack over his cheek; I gave him tylenol, salt water, and oral anasthetic. As soon as the day comes I am going to drive to a dentists office and beg him to see us and send us a bill. Or I'll beg my mom to let me put it on her credit card. We have never been to the dentist and I have no idea how we can make him cooperate and I guess I'll just to trust the doc knows what to do on sedation...I am super nevous. DS's upper rear molar is like totally decayed away. It hasn't hurt him before but he is hurting bad now and I feel terrible that I haven't figured out a way to get him to the dentist before now. We have had bad luck w doctors and I can't expect the dentist will be any better and I am so afraid ds is going to be traumatized. And of sedation. I have been trying to read the archives but there is so much and I know nothing. I'm just hoping someone who knows will post and tell me what I need to know before I take him in. Is there anything he is likely to suggest that I should decline? I'll not leave ds. no way.

TIA for your time.

Millie - I can't answer your questions about sedation, but you may consider editing your title to add that. I know many mothers who have posted about it.

The other issue you talk of is your fears of a bad dentist. I understand your sweetie is in pain and time is of the essence. You could call a dr that you do trust and ask for a pediatric dentist. I'm not sure how old your little one is though and whether that would apply. When you call ask them if they are good with children, especially ones who will be scared and fussy. Listen to their answer, maybe even ask how do you calm them down, how do you work with the scared toddler/child etc.

Good luck and I hope he gets relief soon, toothaches are a misery!
