I'm not sure if this is really a GD question or not, but I was not sure where else to ask it. It is becoming increasingly difficult for my 2 year old to sit still during meals. We have always sat with her and had meals as a family/social time and have had her out to many restaurants. She has always been very well-behaved and we have never really had to question whether or not to take her out. We have always taken things for her to do with us, so that she is occupied.

Recently, however, she has been asserting her independence and has really put up a fuss about sitting during meals, regardless of the location. She does not want to sit in a highchair, and if allowed to sit in the booth or a chair really is unable to sit still and stay in the chair. She wants to climb on, under, and around the table. She is generally uninterested in anything we take with us to distract her these days.

At this point, I would just like to get through a meal in our own kitchen without her getting upset about sitting in her chair or spending the whole time climbing. I don't want to just let her go, because I want her to know it is not okay to climb at dinner. Do you have any suggestions? I am so frustrated at this point.

I just keep telling myself that this phase too will pass, but is there some way to help it along?

Thanks!
