Any other Flylady rejects out there? - Page 2

I didn't like the emails and I refuse to shine my sink. :

I read a Feng Shui book on decluttering that got me motivated a couple years ago to regularly declutter. Now I do it often enough that our home can breathe.

My tips:

I regularly sort toys, donate them or give away. Or throw out. Most are bought at thrift stores and can easily be replaced for subsequent kids.

I do the same for clothing, and even though I may want more kids, the clothes the two I have now haven't or won't be using have just been sorted and placed into bags awaiting a visit to a kids' consignment shop, as well as a second hardly used bassinet, baby swing and bouncy chair. My plan is to use money earned from them to buy more for them clothes-wise in the store.

I regularly do the basement, our worst place for clutter.

Same for clothes.

Bills etc get placed in a sorting tray(s) and regularly sorted.

We bought a cork board for kitchen, which aids in my incessant need for notes!

All in all it is the little things that help declutter!

I am so glad I'm not the only FlyLady failure around here!

I like some of her ideas, but I hate the term "flybaby" - I think it's condescending. Plus, she sent an email about cleaning up your computer desktop and all I could think was that my inbox would be clean if she'd just leave me alone.

After my house got to be a terrible mess again (OK, all things are relative here - it's not like it's ever been tidy - even before baby), I decided to go back and tried her again. This time I used a new, alternative, free email address so all the flylady mail would be in one spot and my regular account wouldn't get bogged down. Truth be told...... I have no idea what the password is to that account and I can't remember if I ever even checked it. :LOL

I'm gonna go check out Modivated Moms now.

Almost forgot - Anyone ever watch "Clean Sweep" on TLC?

I have found this show more logical, interesting and motivational than FlyLady ever was for me. (Plus a lot of their subjects' homes are WAY worse than mine!)

I just got sick of getting like 40 e-mails a day.

At least the rest of you signed up with FlyLady. I took one look at her website and was so overwhelmed by the number of links and lists and rules and explanations that I gave up before I even started.

Come to think of it, that's the way I keep house--get overwhelmed and give up before I even start!

i follow a VERY loose interpretation of the fl program.i think it's wierd to wear shoes in the house, and although i am getting better about not having a huge mountain of dirty dishes, i rarely shine the sink. i like the idea of breaking housework down into a smallish amount each day though, because i never seem to have the energy to do a massive weekend cleanup, like most people do. i delete all the testamonials, and really the majority of the emails. i take some and leave some.

Oddly, the only thing I got out of it was to wear shoes when cleaning. That has actually helped, esp since the basement floor is so gross, I don't like to go down there without shoes.

The kitchen sink was completely counterintuitive to me. In my house it is a success if the dirty dishes make it into the sink! If I can't put them there - well heck! That's what it's for - that's where they're supposed to go.

I love Clean Sweep. My house looks like those houses - it really does.

I do like a clean sink and doing a little bit every day.
ditto!

I looked at the website a while ago but decided not to sign up after reading the one nighttime routine where you loaded the dishwasher, and then later started the dishwasher.
I don't have a dishwasher.
I thought I'd tweak it, but then realized I'd spend too much time before bed washing dishes. I have my own routine which works for me, I do dishes after lunch and again after dinner sometime before bed.

At least that is usually my routine, currently my sink and counters are covered with dishes from yesterday : because there is no water pressure from the sink and I guess I am too lazy to fill up the sink with water from the shower. Although I did go get 2 new shutoff valves last night to fix the problem,(I actually did it to get some "me-jamming-in-the-car time") dh just hasn't fixed it yet.

Me too. And the shoes thing is ridiculous, imo. Wearing shoes in the house just means you have to vacuum more often.

What I've done is decided to pretend that I'm moving into a much smaller house (since we are planning to this summer probably) and get rid of everything that I wouldn't be willing to move with me. Seems to be working pretty well so far.

We have a big tupperware container on the portable dishwasher. If the disshes can't be put in the washer yet they go in the bucket until they can. I rinse stuff that in non-dishwasherable & stack in by the sink. That doesn't mean the sink stays clean, but it is usable, lol.

I'm a flylady failure. I too couldn't understand why you'd wear shoes in the house. I can't be comfortable if I'm wearing shoes and I have a rule...all shoes off at the door.

I prefer My Messy House. It's just a room for the day and a basic guideline on how to clean the room. So much simpler. No rules or anything and you get a day off too.

Oh, and another forum I post on had a thread started about fly lady. For those of you who don't like Fly Lady or the term Flybaby - think about it. What's a baby fly? A MAGGOT! EWWWW! So you're nothing but a maggot when you first start out on their program? Sorry...no thanks.

I got some good ideas, but I can't wear shoes in the house either (no really, I live in an upstairs apt with hardwood floors and the neighbors get : . I also didn't like her attitude towards WOHMs which was what I was then. On another board they stared their own decluttering campaign where they didn;t have to wear shoes. Every day someone posted one 15 minuite decluttering task. It was fun. I do like the idea that you can do anything for 15 minuites.

Shoes in the house

I've struggled with this. I am an on-again, off-again flyperson, currently on as I felt I needed a kick in the pants. I don't like to wear any old shoes in the house. I like to wear Birkis in summer, and in winter, I have fabulous comfortable rubber-soled moccasins. Or wear my Teva shoes which are beautiful, soft lace-ups in a dark grey color. I would never wear shoes from outside right into the house without making sure they are clean. Mostly I have "indoor shoes" that I wear.

I do like making sure I am up, dressed, hair and minimal makeup done everyday. But I was always like that. I hate feeling sloppy.

I get annoyed by her emails, too, and the constant testimonials to buy things or how wonderful she is...sometimes they get a little out of hand. I delete a lot of them automatically, they are such a pain.

I did find her zone system to be helpful initially. If you are patient enough to do it over several months I think you would find that it does work. However, I'm not really zone cleaning now. I just do what I think needs to be done. All in all I use what works for me and delete the rest. I am sure I will unsubscribe again as I have several times in the past...I agree she can be very bossy and a little snooty. I have a thing about there being "one way" too...there is no way...what is that old saying? There is no way, there are many ways? Something like that. There are many ways to keep your house clean and things organized!
