Well, my seven year old and I are reading the Little House books, (a chapter a night), and my three year old has many many favs. Let's see.... The Big Red Barn, Bunny's Noisy Book, Good night Moon, Fairy books, Dr. Suess, etc...
My ten year old is into The Series of Unfortunate Events books. right now.
We are one chapter away from finishing "Little House In The Big Woods." My son really seems to like it and calls it the "Ma and Pa " book. I did avoid dragging up a fe things ( as in, the whole " Who has the prettier hair thing) and I flinched when we were reding about how the sled trip ended for Granpa and How Pa as beaten whn he was late returning with the cows and how Laura got whipped for hitting MAry. I am of the opinion that Ma created that little mess with the whole " Mary has prettier hair" crap and she might have needed a spanking instead.
Not much sugar coating involved in her life, and I loved her stories ..still do actually, just find it hard to explain to my son that people did in fact hit children with belts and sticks for things like that and that you either did as you were told or you got whipped.
I do look forward to reading "Farmer Boy " to him next though.
We hvae also been reading a LOT of Bill Peet books, and some Rosemary wells, and some Suess, and Stuart Little is hidden somewhere around here and I wish I could find it because we were only halfway through it.
My son is 4 and a half now, so we are getting into some simple chapter books .
NO DAvid and HOw I Became A Pirate by DAvid Shannon. I Love You Stinkyface. All of the Curious George books. NOt a big fan of Dr Seuss for some reason. Liked The rhyming Sheep in a Jeep books. Big Pumpkin was awesome. We read it year round. Christmas Trolls by Jan Brett was one of his favorites.
Personally I try to stay away from celebrity books and anything from a cartoon like Arthur or Scooby Doo books.

I found a great book this weekend on my troll at the consignment store. Its called "Alphabet City" . I dont remember the author (I mailed the book to a friend). THe book is paintings of NYC landscape items that represent the alphabet. Its a caldecot award winner, so i'm sure you're library has a copy. There's no words in it, just a beautiful book visually, very artistic.
DD is reading Love, Ruby Lavendar at the moment.
DS#1 is on a Goosebumps kick : , but he's well rounded and just got off a World War 2 jag.
The baby is JUST getting into reading, sitting still and pointing things out in books. He loves No, David (older DS loved it too!) and points out his naked bum everytime :LOL
I love Elisa Kleven, too! We own "The Paper Princess" (not to be confused with The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch) and it is a beautiful story with incredible illustrations.
DD and I just started reading the Little House series and so far, the first few chapters are all about hunting, butchering and loading and cleaning a gun! Honestly, though, it doesn't bother me because we're not vegetarians ourselves and DD can understand the idea of hunting for survival. I'll be happy when we get to the less gun-centered chapters, though!
Dd whose 3 really likes:
Granfather twilight
Alot of otters
Custard the dragon
A ride on mothers back
Where the wild things are
Any Dr.seuss
Miss mary mack
The eensy weensy spider
I love Blueberries for sal but dd's not a big fan of it.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! Dh is reading The Two Towers. We had The Viewer from the library last week and read that a few times. She mostly reads her own picture books these days, picks out her own library books, is starting to read chapters to herself. She likes Ramona for "sustained silent reading."
