This is my sixth baby. We did it UC last time and everything went fine, but I think we're going to use a midwife this time, for a couple of different reasons.
1. My husband would like the help afterward.
2. I am very interested in midwifery, and thought it might be a good idea if I experienced a birth with a midwife.
3. I think there are probably some underlying fears left from the miscarriage I had last spring.
I think that I am going to tell the midwife that I don't want her to do anything except help afterwards, or if there is a problem--I am kind of torn between having the kind of "friend" relationship with a midwife and having her at the birth and I don't want to lose the intimacy that my husband and I had at the last one.
Any thoughts, advice, etc? I have already met with a midwife once--I liked her, she was more my age and seems very nice. She didn't act like she would have a problem with what I want (or don't want), but I think maybe I should be more specific next time, but still leave it open in case she and I develop a real rapport and I want her in there with me.
