Today I called three catalogs and got off their lists. The sad thing is, those three all came in the mail the same day! So I have more to go, but I have to start somewhere...

I know! I received SO many catalogues around the holiday..:

That is a very good idea, to get off the lists. There are a few I like, but certainly not all of them.

I started doing this in November. I cancelled 40 catalogs over the course of about 4 weeks! They told me I still might get one or two more copies because of how early they send mailing lists to the printers, but it has helped tremendously already. I'm still getting some others that I haven't yet cancelled and need to make another round of calls, but it's amazing how much crap comes in the mail unless you do this. All of the catalogs that I like are available online, so there's no need to kill a tree to send me the paper copy too!

This is SUCH a good idea. I guess I never knew you could get off the lists! We never catalog shop anymore and get 2 Williams-Sonomas, 2 Pottery Barns, 2 of nearly everything (I guess dh and I have bought things separately and so they think we are just friends or something?! lol)

Off to call some catalogs...

Great idea. I am simply amazed by how much mail we receive and how little of it is important. We recycle it, but I would love to reduce the amount.

OK- I'm gonna do it.
It's hard, because I loooove catalogs...

One good thing -- Pottery Barn Kids asked if I wanted off of ALL their lists (includes PB and Williams Sonoma and maybe others). So if you're calling make sure you say you want to be taken off all of their lists.

Annettemarie - You can always keep a couple of your favorites coming, as guilty pleasures.

Oh - and there was another one I called that listed about 15 catalogs that are all part of one company, and they took me off all at once as well. I think it included Northstyle, but can't remember what else.

Hooray for me! I made 3 phone calls to cancel catalogs today.

They seemed very confused when I asked to be removed from their mailing lists!

I also mark junk mail "refused - return to sender". We get very little junk mail that's not local advertising. Doesn't it feel good to simplify your life and save trees?
