The Discipline Book by Dr. Sears
Positive Time-Out by Jane Nelsen
Playful Parenting by Larry Cohen
The Successful Child by Dr. Sears
Positive Discipline for Preschoolers by Jane Nelsen et al. (except the part on sleep, ignore it and it's an excellent book!)
Positive Discipline A-Z by Jane Nelsen et al. (ditto on the sleep part!)

Becoming the Parent You Want to Be - Laura Davis and Janis Keyser

REally good, really comprehensive and it addresses specific behaviours (hitting, spitting etc)

...i was just recomending "you are your childs first teacher" on another thread...and ill do it again, by golly, just because im finding it so exciting to understand the actual development of the whole child, it makes it easier to just respond naturally to what ever comes up. i dont know if you've read it or just heard of it, but anyhow, just wanted to second that.
...parenting is such special work

I'm also reading "You are your child's first teacher"... getting a few chuckles out of it b/c of some of the waldorf-inspired sentiments (not my cup of tea!), but really a great book!

I really like "Proactive Parenting from age two to six" by the Tufts University faculty.

I enjoyed Parenting with Dignity by Mac Bledsoe and he has recently published Parenting with Dignity the Early years I would be interested in a review of that.

I highly recommend "Smart Love" by Martha Heineman Pieper, Ph.D. and William J. Pieper, M.D.

I keep it on my nightstand and refer to it often.
