Typical Montessori curriculum

So, what does your child do all day at Montessori? How much of it is child-led and how much is structured or semi-structured? What is the age of your child? Does Montessori have "grades" or is it one big class with kids of different ages?

As for curriculum, I'll quote from my school's brochure:

At Pleasant Valley Montessori the adult is a guide or director more than a "teacher." The role of the adult is to prepare the environment an offer activities or "work" to the children. It is through their own work, exploration, and movement that children learn best.

Art, music, and movement are all part of the everyday activities available to the children. They are not relegated to a special day or time. Available are activities and materials for creative, developmental, performing, and group participation in these areas.

The other curriculum areas are language, mathematics, sensorial (development of the senses), practical life (including grace and courtesy), and cultural and nature studies.

The adult offers individual "presentations" or introductions to activities. These are choses based on the individual interests and develpmental needs of each child. Each child works at their own pace, in small groups of their own choosing or alone.

P.S. - the typical age grouping for Children's House (at least with an AMI school) is about 2 3/4 years through 6 years old together. Elementary can be either 6 - 9 years old together and 9 - 12 years old together, or 6 - 12 years old together.
