I would actually LOVE to serve jury duty..I know..I am odd.. BUT.. I want to do it when I'm NOT breastfeeding.. When my rights and the rights of my child aren't being jeopardized.. If he was 3 it probably wouldn't be an issue.. Regardless of whether or not there is a trial tomorrow when I call the helpline I will be writing letters..Because it is just WRONG.. I sent in my form with the reasons why I couldn't serve right now.. I followed the law.. And the judge disregarded it.. I'm really mad..

I know that your son is older, but when my brother was 3 months old, my mom was called to jury duty (in Wisconsin). They wouldn't let her off either and they wouldn't let her feed him either. So, my dad sat in the back of the court room and let him wail at the top of his lungs till they finished. Now, that was also nearly 25 years ago. I am sure it isn't a good idea now, but it sounds like one! I hope you find a way to stick it to her!!!

I'll be waiting to hear what happens!!

Aw but your poor mom!!! Orion's crying makes me all nerves and jittery NOW when I can't get to him to stop it, but when he was that tiny I could barely function if he was crying and I couldn't help him (I distinctly remember driving on a freeway and he was HOWLING and my fingers were SO tight on the steering wheel). And your poor brother!

Dyan, I hope things go well for you and that Judge eats her words!!

Are you producing a lot of milk? Show up in a thin shirt with no bra and leak everywhere.

OH Good idea greaseball!!!!

I'd show up sit down and proceed to show people baby pictures and leak all over the place. Then, I'd hand that judge a copy of the related laws and let her know that I had informed all pertanent government officials of how these laws and mothers rights are being violated by her.

Good luck Pynki! Unbelievable

Call your local news stations!!!

They will eat it up!

The judge should be fired! Does she not know the law in the state she represents???

Perhaps you should also take with you a printed copy of the new breastfeeding guidelines from the AAP which say something like "there is no upper limit to breastfeeding" and that there are no negatives shown physically or emotionally with breastfeeding beyond 2 years
ITA with this! Can't wait to hear what happens!

Is there the slightest, smallest chance that she did not do this to stick it to breastfeeding moms, but just thought that you had already been exempted a couple times and need to come in?
She should know the law, and she should be supportive of her fellow women, but, I would personally not go in looking for a fight, but with the peaceful knowledge that I was in the right.
I would bring the copy of the law, and the AAP recommendation, and the note from the LC, and would not put her on the defensive, but say something like, "There musr have been a mistake- here is the law stating....."
JMO- I know what it is like to have your mama feathers ruffled!

I agree-- call the local news!!! I'd also call a lawyer to ask advice.

I agree with AnnetteMarie that peace is best. It worked for Martin Luther King, Jr. But so did news coverage. It would be wonderful if you could get the news involved -- not so much to stick it to the judge but to raise awareness for breastfeeding mamas everywhere. There is so much misinformation and bias against BFing mamas in this country, esp. ext. BFing, and only our loud beautiful voices are going to change that.

Your little one is lucky you are able to fight! Many mamas would go in because they didn't realize they had a choice, suffering the hardship of childcare and leaving their little without milk. The world needs to know that babies need, deserve, and HAVE A RIGHT to their mothers.

Well ladies.. It's anti-climactic..

There wasn't any trial scheduled today, so I didn't have to go..

I AM sending the letter I have from the LC, along with the copy of the law, and a copy of the pertinant AAP recs to the clerks office to forward to the judge.. I am also sending the info to the papers, and PERHAPS the news.. I don't know how I feel about TV.. I am also trying to find out who does oversite for county judges and forward to them the information as well..

She may not have been out to screw a nursing mother, but that is what would have happened with a different mother..

I'm a bit upset I didn't get to go today now.. Not that I like early mornings, but I rarely have a reason to be a lactivist.. Thank you guys for all the support..

[QUOTE=steffanie3]I wouldn't take your babe with you, someone did that in Idaho and I think they were in contempt. I am not sure but they talked about it at LLL.

I think if it happens again you should bring her baby and a copy of the written law. How could you possilby be seen as in contempt of the law???
