Woo-hoo! NBC got it right for once!!!!

This aired today on NBC regarding the new AAP guidelines for BFing, including co-sleeping! They actually represented it correctly - unlike ABC and USA today, etc who are saying that it only recommends BFing for 6 months - and had Dr. Ruth Lawrence (who is a BF researcher and has co-authored several lactation books) as their expert guest. I thought they did a great job (especially for mainstream media!) of bringing up the questions the average american will have and letting Dr Lawrence dispell the myths. Gotta love Ann Curry too She interjected several comments alluding to the fact that she BF'd and co-slept

Here's the article and a videa of the segment.

I can't remember if it was Anne Curry or Soledad OBrien but I read an interview where she was recomending a particular breast pump & was saying how awesome it was because even when she was away for longer stretches she could pump & fed ex the milk back home. I thought that was cool. I missed it this morning - glad to hear it was good! (for once!)

I was just about to post something similar that I found in another article about the AAP's recomendations as far as breastfeeding goes. I was so happy! Now when my mom or sister tries to say something about my breastfeeding (especially the whole bit about self-weaning) I can say, "But what about the recomendations by the American Association of Pediatrics?" lol Both my mom and my sister are the types where if you show them that it's recomended by something that big (big in their eyes anyway) then it must be OK.

I'm just glad that there are doctors who are trying to make this mainstream now. For so long it wasn't as supported. Now it is.

Wheeee!

I am not a huge Today fan, but this is a wonderful video. I think it should be required viewing in parenting classes. Anne did a very nice interview. I like how she snuck in her comments.
