Cheap Valentines Dinner for 2 at home!

HI, WE ARE ON A REALLY TIGHT BUDGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanna make a romantic meal for DH, especially b/c he really does deserve it.
I wanna make something different, but not too pricey. Any suggestions and or recipes?????

What about doing several courses.

Appetizer: stuffed or marinated mushrooms for an appetizer, you can do those pretty cheap if you don't buy the fancy ones. I have some recipes if you need them.

Maybe some yummy dips, like at a greek restaurant, with hot pita

Soup: Make your own cream of something. Top with a dollop of sour cream and a crouton (toasted bread)

Salad: Make an exotic salad, add fruit or seeds you wouldn't normally throw in, you may have some of these in your cupboard

Main dish: let us know what you have in your cupboard freezer, I bet someone can come up with something fun.

Dessert: Make a homemade cake in a heart shape or some other favorite treat.

Maybe have a little poem or love note with each course to make it extra special.

Well, tonight we are eating at home since we were away over the weekend at MIL. We ate a lot of takeout (she is not a cook) and I really don't want anymore takeout food! I thought about my favorite take out meals, though, and one of them is a pasta dish from an Italian eatery. It's ziti with cream tomato sauce, spinach, sausage, and mushrooms. I have all the ingredients (a jar of Newman's vodka sauce, sausage, fresh spinach, and rotini pasta). I am missing the mushrooms, but that's okay, it will taste pretty much the same.

It's easy to put together and I may also make some heart-shaped sugar cookies while DS is sleeping..if I get around to it!

Curious-what are others doing tonight for dinner?
