Anyone else got a toddler who only nurses from one breast? - Page 2

Hi mama of five,
Ds nurses on the left side only. He's been like this for almost a year! I think the hindmilk was coming out of the right breast every time he nursed on that side and he liked the sweeter foremilk that came out of the left breast. Also, the supply seemed to flow more easily from the left. It's very funny, now that he's verbal, he will occasionally take a sip out of the right and very seriously say "salty." Then he goes back to the left side.
And yes, as others have mentioned, I do feel like a freak sometimes! My left side is bigger than my right, not as bad these days since ds doesn't nurse as frequently in the daytime as he used to.

The only advice I would give would be to have your little one try to nurse from the other side at night? I've heard that's when hormone levels are highest and it may even out milk production for both breasts (and consequently balance out the size of both breasts).

:LOL
I thought I was the only one! How funny...
DD is a left breast drinker! (LBD - :LOL ) She will sometimes take the right for a second and then push it away, in favor of lefty!

Yup, and I hate to tell you it doesn't get any better!!!!!!! DD went to my left breast at about 10 or 11 months and never looked back. I was always lopsided. Now she weaned her self, I'm pregnant, and I'M still LOPSIDED!!!!!!!!!!!!! :LOL

Ds, when I point to the left, he signs "dirty" and cracks himself up. I give it to him at night, when he wants more, or tell him the other side is "all gone" when I'm really full on left. I know their is a different shape to the nipple and he used to, when really tiny, have trouble latching on to that side.

Another lop-sided lefty here.

My ds hasn't nursed on the right side since last July when I had surgery to remove an extra lump of breast tissue under my right arm. The milk that was produced by this extra tissue couldn't drain anywhere, so I was constantly engorged and in pain. But he'd try to play with the drain that they put in after surgery if I nursed him on the right breast, so I limited him to the left until I healed. I guess it just stopped producing before I was ready to switch him back -- he refused it altogether.

I was hopeful that I'd regain some balance after he weaned himself, but after reading these stories, I guess I'll give up on that!

This is all too funny! I thought I was alone... :LOL
This past weekend DH & I got away to Seattle for an overnight (to celebrate our Valentine's Day wedding anniversary) and he really admired my left DD cup...
I have just in the last few days insisted that she have 'that' (as she calls it) first...
although she still says "done" after a sip
I almost wish I had a 6th baby to nurse from my right side

Yep, he's always hated the left breast even though it seems to work just fine. It's been suggested maybe he had a birht injury and it started out uncomfortable for him and now it's just a habit/preference. (he's 2). So, My right breast is big. My left breast is not. I look like a freak.
