Can I get a Cavity Filled While Preg?

Can I use the pain shot and everything to get a cavity filled while I'm pregnant?
Yes. The shot is local, it doesn't go beyond the gums. Avoid the nitrous (laughing gas) though, but I dont' think you have much traumatic experience going on from what I read in another thread

If you're far in the third trimester, I hope you'll be comfy enough though

Like the previous poster stated, the novocaine should be fine. I don't know what you are planning to use, but you may want to research amalgam vs. composite fillings. Personally, I wouldn't get an amalgam put in because I am freaked out about mercury.

Oh yeah, definitely no amalgam! My dentists haven't used it for years, so sometimes I forget it's still around. No matter what they say, composite is at least as strong and easy to use, and def worth the extra $$

Hey everyone,

Thank you! I'm glad to know I don't have to let my teeth rot, and I'm so glad I went to the dentist! I would not have gone if I wasn't pregnant for at least a few more months. I've NEVER had a cavity in my whole life even before I had sealants, so I was shocked to learn about having 2 cavities.

No Rush

Decay is generally a slow moving entity. If the cavity is not deep I suggest you wait until after the baby is born. 'novacaine' is suppose to be safe but why chance it if it is not urgent? Two new cavities on a person who hasn't had one previous is probably not going to be too involved. No mercury.

with a history of 4 early mcs, the dentist refused to do any work on my teeth when I went in my 3rd trimester. She said I should wait until I deliver.I had a very superficial cavity and she wouldnt even do that one bcs i would have needed a shot. So apparently there is something, plus the fact that even though it is a local injection, it will go into your blood circulation, even in small amounts.
