Homebirth after 2 sections?

Both of my boys were born via unplanned unwanted and likely unecessary c-sections. Dh and I have decided on a midwife next time around Ob's are just too scalpel happy. I wanted a homebirth the first time around but my family threw a FIT. And I was too scared/uneducated the second time around. are there midwives out there who will attend a HBA2C's when I go out looking what questions should I be asking? Is this a totally stupid/irresponsible thing to even be thinking about? Would we be safer in a birthcenter or hospital? So many questions!!

Thanks

You'll be safer where you'll feel safest and with those scalpel-happy surgeons around, that's most likely to be home.

Giving birth at home HBA2C is a wise, evidence-based choice well supported by recent studies that say VBA2C is safer than repeat c-sec. If you go into the hospy system they will want to intervene in your labour and it will no longer be as safe. I'll post a Jan. 2005 study as soon as I've changed a nappy ;-)

Welcome to the world of gentle, empowered birthing!

"Vaginal Birth following 2 caesarean sections" V.K.Garg, E.N. Ekuma-Nkama. International journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (Jan.2005) 88, 53-54.
"205 women with 2 previous sections, delivered vaginally between 1997 & 2002 . 66 Vaginally (32.2%), 71 had elective C/S (34.6%), 68 had emergency C/S....Induction or augmentation of labour was not offered due to increased incidence of uterine rupture. . The commplication rate was higher in the C/S group than in the VBAC2 group(19.5% v 7.4%) mean blood loss was higher in the C/S group than the vaginal group. There was no scar dehiscence or hysterectomy in either group. ......Thus, VBAC2 is reasonable and is sucessful with minimal complications if patient selection and labour management is judicious."

Just want to chime in and say that you are absolutely NOT stupid and irresponsible to be considering a HBA2C! You are very smart to be considering all of your options.

I dont know if you have seen this link before:
http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/..._after_2_cs.htm
but it is specifically about vaginal births after multiple cesareans and it may help you.

Good luck!

Thank you :-) I have seen Kmom's site it's very encouraging! I feel in my heart that this is the right choice. I know I will have that gentle staple and stitch free birth I have so longed for. I just need to figure out if there are any hb midwives close to me in the middle of NOWHERE! LOL Thanks again.
