Does anyone here not vax and still recieve WIC? My sis doesn't want to vax but is scared the WIC office will refuse her or worse turn her into Social Services...And she really needs the WIC...She is a single mom...Can she use the religious excemption to appease them? Her baby is nearing the time for his appointment and 1st shots.....

I do. Does she also live in Kentucky? I just got an exemption for my oldest boy last week so he could start preschool. Everything she needs is in this thread:

If she is in Kentucky and you would like a copy of my sworn statement PM me and I will be happy to give it to you. It was very easy, the health department nurse asked about vaccines, I handed her the form and she filled it out. She did tell me that if there was an epidemic that they could require immunization but if it came to that I would remove himfrom school until it was over.

In CA, my sister received WIC and did not vax. However she also would refuse to go to any of the instructive session they had also, so she had other problems.

I'm in Wisconsin, and I don't immunize and still receive WIC. Every time I go they keep telling me to bring my immunization records to the next appt, and every time they do that I remind them that we don't vaccinate. We signed their waiver, it's written in my kids' charts, and it's in the computer system, yet they keep "reminding" me to bring it in. It's a pain in the arse to keep "reminding" them to get off my butt, but afterward they back off a bit.

It helps me to explain that I know a couple kids who've been vaccine-injured and so vaxing isn't something we're going to do. It makes them back off, at lwast for that appointment.

I'm in MI, recieve WIC, and selective vax. I've never had a problem, if they ask I just tell them "his doctor and I are in agreement on this" or something similar. They never fuss about it.

I'm in NE and get WIC and don't vax. They've asked for AJ's records at every check up and I just never bring them and no one has even mentioned it. I do have a religious exemption if they ask though.

They are funded by the government--if they refuse to treat and provide for her--because she chose not to vax--that's discrimination--which is against federal law!

I receive WIC and delayed vaccines. When they asked for vaccine records, I gave them a copy of the "cover-the-drs-butt" form that I'd signed (basicaly saying that I know the risks of not vaccinating and I still choose not to do so at this time.) I had a nice chat with the nutritionist about delaying vaccines and she told me how she delayed the vax for her puppies

Jack has received vaccines starting at age 3, but the WIC office hasn't asked for the records yet- I guess they're so used to having the vax records complete by age 2 that they don't even think to ask with an older child.

i live in IN and have wic & medicaid

my daughter is 10 1/2 months old. we've had wic since i became pregnant. so far, we've not had any issues (she's only had the polio vaccine). however, we go for her recertification appt. at the end of march and we are supposed to bring vax records then. i'm a bit nervous about it -- basically just about standing my ground. but i talked to a friend who goes to the same office and she said she just took the record of what she had (very little ) and they asked her a few questions and eventually dropped it. so that made me feel a little better. we'll see how it goes. i'm also worried a little about the food intake form -- dd is still not eating tons and tons of solids, though certainly more than she was 2 months ago... (a favorite is refried black beans mixed with plain yogurt). i'm not sure what they'll say about that... she's not wasting away by any means -- she weighs a bit over 21 lbs...

i also periodically freak out that medicaid will try to take away our benefits. (only dd is on it) my husband is a fulltime student and we really need it.

Just get a blank vax record (let me know if you need some, I can get a few and send to you) and show them that. They get a "vax record" that is true and accurate so they will shut up about it!

I do. I took in a letter I had to fill out that I found online that said we'd done our research. When they put it in the computer there was a sheet I asked to look at that had all the reasons allowable for my state. Not a big deal at all.
