Help me with this debacle.

We are currently enrolling 5yo ds for kindergarten. He is partially vaxed, allergic to eggs. He had to get stitches in his head about a month ago, and so we ok'd the tetanus (long story, he had a tennis ball sized goose egg where they injected him -yuck!) I held him and cried for hours. I think I was more traumatized than he was.

Ok, here's the debacle. Since he is allergic to eggs, he will have to have an MMR in the allergists office. I refuse to do this, because its ridiculous to inject an allergen directly into one's bloodstream. The ped. will not sign a waiver because she think I'm being ridiculous and that ds will be fine. I can't sign a religious exemption ( we don't have philosophical here) for school because ds is partially vaxed, and they won't allow him in without the medical form.

Does anyone please have any tips? I'm racking my brain trying to figure out to do. I absolutely will not give him the MMR and I'm really upset that they are trying to pigeonhole me into doing it.

Not to sound overly simplistic, but can you get a new doctor? Would your allergist be willing to sign an exemption?

Does the school know he is partially vaxed? I would get the religious exemption as if he were not vaxed at all.

I agree with pp don't let the school know that he is part. vaxed and go for the exemption.

And, I would not vaccinate a child that is allergic to eggs.

Allergies can come from any injection though. They are grown on foreign protein and when that is injected into the blood allergies result.

There were NO allergies reported before vaccines.

That's what I was thinking, but on the medical form we have to submit - with his physical and tb test, it already shows that he is.

Gosh, can you get a new doc, new tb test, new physical from a homeopath?

Is the tb test mandatory? my grandson didn't need it for k/garten. He only had the physical. (Actually his uncle, a doc, just signed it.)

Or you could see if your local health department does school physicals. My ds1 was vaxxed to 9 months but I have since stopped seeing that doctor and do his school physicals and such through the health department. When they ask about vaccines I just say that we don't for religious reasons. I figure they don't need to knwo that he has had vaxes before.

Dr. Leonard Horowitz lives in Hawaii. He is the author of Emerging Viruses. He tried to enroll his DCs in a Waldorf school there, and they were refused enrollment since they are not vaccinated. This is totally ridiculous since the man who founded the Waldorf educational process was against vaccination. Dr. Leonard Horowitz homeschools his children instead.

That is so lame that a Waldorf school would require vaxes. That is such a contradiction!

If all else fails you could always tell the school (or whoever) that you just converted to a different religion were vaxes are against your beliefs. That would qualify you for a religious exemption.

I would go for the exemption ,and if that should be to much of a hassle then homeschool .Is risking your son's life or health worth it? Yes, chances are your son MIGHT be OK,but any doctor that tries to sell you with... "nothing will happen..." knowing your son is allergic...is a doctor who does not care. If your son is injured in any way she will benefit with the extra services she will provide. There is absolutely no reason why your son MUST be exposed to this risk. Why is the doctor pushing it so much when she could exempt your son? If you are ok with the risk of no MMR vaccine, then why can't she be OK with it?
I would question her privately after you have your exemption on file! Would it be so much of a blow to the countries immunization program if children at high risk for reactions did not get the vaccines????

Best wishes to you and I hope your child can avoid the MMR and later on the surely to be mandated yearly double dose of Flu vaccine for children!

How long does it take before you can do a second tb test? I was thinking of going to a different doctor, but he would have to get a second tb test and I know if you do them too close together you'll get a false positive.

I think the best plan of attack for right now, is to see if the allergist will sign a waiver, and if he won't then we'll try a different allergist.

hawaii may be different, but i thought you could do a relig ex. if already partially vaxed, you just could not maintain the relig ex. if you continue some vaxes?

Can't you have a religious 'conversion'? It isn't like being 'born again' is such an unusual idea.

When was your child last vaccinated? Your religious beliefs then don't have to be your religious beliefs now. I'd get a 2nd physical and tb test to submit along with a religious exemption, just to reduce the opportunity for hassle. Good luck.

And as far as the MMR vaccine being given in the allergists office, didn't they take an oath something along the lines of "First do no harm"?
