Not real close, but I know what SCV stands for. Are you on the CHN e-mail group?

SCV & CHN

Hi Carla!

Yes, I am on the CHN loop! SCV stands for the Santa Clarita Valley
(up by Six Flags Magic Mountain).

homeschooling in LA

Hi!

I hope to be un/homeschooling in the LA area some day - though I have to get pregnant first.

What a great area this is to homeschool in - museums, art galleries, numerous music venues, huge libraries (downtown LA & college libraries), clubs, sports teams etc. I can't wait! I'm leaning towards unschooling (wish I'd been, but I'm making up for it now) and have been researching it.

I made the mistake of telling my mother about it while visiting her for Thanksgiving - she said, "But who is going to teach her algebra?" And I said, "Who taught ME algebra? The teacher who screamed at me weekly and threw chalkboard erasers at me???? I sure as hell didn't learn algebra in school!" And I've managed to survive without alot of math (though I'll make sure my kid gets better opportunities to learn higher math and science than I did - in school).

I think LA would be a great place to homeschool! What are these groups you are talking about?

Hi Mirim....

Hello!

Is SFV for the San Fernando Valley? Do you belong to one
of the local groups in the valley?

I have Homeschooling In SCV- (as in Santa Clarita Valley)

It's been a long time since someone has added to this

I had forgotten I even sent it! I sure like the Mothering

schooling in SFV

Hi there,

My DS is only 1 but I am starting to look into schools. I have thought of homeschooling but I would actually prefer to find a wonderful school for DS. I want a school that nurtures my child's creativity, stresses the arts and nature, I don't want DS to befriend kids who are playing with guns and watchimg tons of TV and playing with video games. I am looking for a non-toxic environment.

I want a kind gentle atmosphere for DS. I have looked into Waldorf but I got a bit turned off from some of the discussions on this board. Does a school like this exist in SFV? If not, any one interesting in creating a homeschool like this?

I welcome any suggestions.

Thanks,

Lori
