Thanks to our Public School, for making us look really good.

I am in the middle of an extended family that consists of two very AP SIL's and one very NOT.

There are often some tensions between us and our different styles. Especially with one SIL who does not have much of a sense of humor.

This week my one of my AP SIL (who is wonderful, funny and smart) was visiting. She hs's and although she genuninely tries to be open minded, she really does not quite approve of our public school attending, junk food eating girls.

Her girls are the same ages as my two younger ones (8 and almost 10). I talked to the principal and the girls' teachers and they said their cousins could come for one day.

My 8 y.o. was having a play at school yesterday and I had to work the "fun lunch" (at which fast food is brought in to the school). So the girls went to school with their cousins and my SIL and I planned to join them at lunch.

Well, wouldn't you know it, although my kids school is pretty traditional that week my older DD's class was in the midst of a "service project" After the Tsunami, the teacher had them brainstorm about what they could do to raise money.

Somehow they came up with the idea of opening up a store at the school to sell things. (The Teacher explained how they were going to use their math skills and writing skills (ads) to run the business.) They decided to make jewlery and sell that, and the Teacher has been letting them do that each morning for an hour.

In my DD's grade they also do something called Book Club. Where in groups they pick a book to read, and then once a week have a book discussion where each child is a leader. One chld is the "host" and brings treats (cookies or chips) for the meeting. Of couse yesterday was the day and my niece was reading the book too, because my dd had called her last week to tell her about it (Because of Winn-Dixie).

So any way my, SIL saw her DD at lunch and said "So, how's it going"

It's good said her DD. And then she narrowed her eyes and said accusingly:

"Its NOT like you said though, we got to bead necklaces and have a book discussion and COOKIES. AND there were no workbooks! (there are but not everyday)

My SIL, then took one look at the fast food lunch. My kids had told their cousins that it was usually McDonalds or Hot Dogs. But yesterday was "Deli Day" when we have these very nice (and healthy) Turkey Sandwiches from a local deli served with Carrots and Salsa and Fruit.

She started laughing and said "If I didn't know better, I'd think you set this whole thing up!"

I was pretty happy though that we looked so good in her eyes. (I really do like her).

That is pretty funny. Don't you wish public school could be like that every day?

I do.

Excellent! Don't you also wish our siblings could respect our choices?!
