placenta bowl?

just wondering how big of a bowl we should expect to use for the placenta? i know it sounds kinda silly, like, we should just get a big bowl, but we live in a pretty tight space and don't have alot of kitchen supplies. so i'm not sure if we need to get a bigger bowl than the one i have. any advice on size?

The bowl that I used for my second UC was about 8 inches in diameter, and quite deep. It's my salad bowl, actually Some people have gynormous placentas, though, and since it's your first, you don't really know yet how big it will be, so maybe your biggest bowl will cover it? A good mixing bowl would suffice, or a bucket if you were desperate.

i didn't use a bowl in my last UC, I delivered the placenta in my bathtub I hope to deliver the placenta in my shower again this time as its less messy and any less cleanup is a-ok by me

if you are not in water you can birth it into a chux and just wrap the chux around it until/if you cut the cord.

i have seen mamas use cooking pots, even a wok..i wouldn't worry too much about it.. i bet you have something big enough..

We had a mixing bowl about 8 or 9 inches in diameter, but it was pretty deep.

Question: for thoughs that used existing kitchen items, did you toss them?

At my last birth, the placenta was delivered onto a chux and then we put in it an aluminum (disposable) pan that we got from the dollar store ($0.45) so the boys could look at and explore (which they got such a kick out of) where their baby brother had been living for the past 9 months while I got showered. Then it was double bagged and put into the freezer, where it still is 2yrs after the fact.

thanks for the input. that helps alot. i was actually picturing a big gushing waterfall with this huge placenta and lots of stuff. it sounds like the bowl we have will be fine and we can put it on top of a towel just in case. i'm bummed b/c our fridge no longer works as of last week, so i have to eat as much of the placenta right away as i want and can't have frozen smoothies over a week or two.
