1st of all i dont have a serger i have a kenmore but i cant rember that model number lol. ok i found the machine its Here
Ok having said that, what stich is best to use to make diapers? What kinda materials are best? esp AIO's and how do you get the inner and outer layer to stay together without a serger?
hope those make sense lol

probably a zigzag stitch would work best.. as far as materials it's a personal preferance something absorbant and something waterproof lol

you don't need a serger to make diapers.. it just makes it a bit faster for some people and a bit more professional looking

sorry i forgot to answer you other question.. to get the inner and outer layer to stay together you sew the absorbant stuff all together (if you want a true AIO that is) and the put the right side of the inside (with the absorbant stuff sewn onto the bottm facing the right side of the waterproof fabric so it looks like the diaper is inside out... stich all around the diaper but leave a hole at the back or front (I usually do front as I put elastic at the back) then your pull the diaper 'inside in' through the hole.. tuck the ends in the hole and topstich it closed with a stright stich (the one that looks like a dotted line) and topstich all around the diaper.

Does that help?

ok so any fabric will do fine. got that. zig zag stich, not sure what it is but ill find out in my book :LOL ok now..... makeing them look "seamlees" so to speak. is that along the idea of making a pillow? like stiching it on the wrong side than flipping it inside out (so its actually right side in lol) then with a pillow youd stuff then sew up the hole? is that what your saying? sorry to be a pain!!!

I agree you definitely don't need a serger to make dipes. I have a Kenmore too, and I love it. I make all mine turned and topstitched (kind of like the way you'd make a pillow, by sewing on the "wrong" side of the fabric, inside-out, and then pulling it through a hole that you've left and sewing up the hole) so that's the "turned" part, and the "topstitched" part is where you then stitch around the edges (I use a basic straight stitch for all of this) to give it a nice flat finished look. I use a 3-step zig-zag stitch for the elastic, which you should sew in first, before you do anything else. There are some good websites out there that give some great "how to" type instructions - check out www.diapersewing.com that's where I got some of the basics when I first started.

Good luck and have fun, and if you make a few that are total disasters, know that you're not the only one! :LOL

totally totally don't need a serger! you can turn and top stitch and if you want a REALLY FAST and EASY way to sew AIOs and covers or fitteds you can use fold over elastic (you can get it at any of the diaper fabric stores).

This way you cut your pattern and simply bind it with the elastic, you dont' need a binding foot. you fold the elastic (hence the name :LOL) over the edges of your cut fabric and sew it on. preferably using a triple zig zag stitch-regular zig zag works too though) the FOE is really soft and not irritating. This way its just cut fabric, layer and pin, then sew it together.

you can look at www.roliepoliebaby.com if you want to see it in action. she binds everything with FOE i think.

Have a look at www.sewdiapers.com - it's the site that shows variations for use with the Very Baby patterns. It shows pretty clearly in some of the tutorials how to turn & topstitch a diaper. I don't like serging diapers at all for some reason, so most of mine are made on a conventional machine. I use straight stitch to sew the seams, zigzag to sew on the elastic, then straight stitch for the topstitching & aplix.
