Lotsa diaper cover Q's, any A's??

In case you're all bored, here's something to think about...

1- Thread: I know I need to use 100% polyester for PUL, but what about wool? Fleece?

2- Decorating a cover: Do I need to use the same type of material for appliques as the cover? (ie- wool with wool, fleece with fleece?) Or can I use other fabrics on fleece or wool?

3- Embroidery: How do I do it on PUL without having wicking problems? I thought about adding another PUL layer, but how do I attach it? If I sew it on I'll have wicking...

4- Can PUL be ironed? I make T&T AIOs and want a nice clean edge...

1. i serge wool covers using wooly nylon. when i do use my regular machine, i mostly use transparent/invisible thread, which i'm pretty sure is also nylon. poly thread should be fine for wool & fleece. you definately want to stay away from ANY type of cotton (or cotton blend!!) when sewing covers!!

3. i haven't embroidered PUL yet, but i've heard of mamas embroidering the PUL then ironing another piece of PUL (PUL side to PUL side) over it. the heat of the iron supposedly bonds the 2 PUL sides together.

I don't know about embroidering or ironing PUL, but I use maxi lock polyester serger thread on pretty much everything I sew. And the couple of times I've done applique, I did use the same materials as what the diaper/cover was made from. It makes care so much easier to have wool with wool & fleece with fleece.
