It works!

I posted a couple weeks ago about buying the Fleiss book and a copy of "Whose Body, Whose Rights?" on DVD.

I have been passing them out to all of my friends who are having babies, and the info is making a big impact.

My dh's best friend and his wife are pregnant with their first baby. His wife was adamant that the baby be circed if it was a boy. Dh's friend listened to the info that dh had told him and said he would divorce his wife if she insisted on circing their baby. I loaned them the DVD, and the problem is solved. She was horrified. I am happy to report that there will be no cutting if they have a boy.

A friend of mine at church is pregnant with their first boy (they have 2 daughters already). We talk a little, but certainly not best of friends. I was scared to approach her on the subject because I don't know her that well. I decided to loan her the book and the movie and just tell her that I found this info helpful when we had our boys. She gladly took it. The following Sunday she told me that she had read the book and was trying to get her dh to read it. She said he would only read a few pages and then throw the book down and say that he can't read it anymore. He finally agreed that they will leave the baby intact, but its against her dh's wishes. I think he's just having a hard time coming to terms that his own circ was unnecessary. He's a really cool guy so I think he will come around.

My BIL and SIL are having a baby too. They have already circed their first 2 sons, but I hope that showing them the DVD will help them change their minds if they have a boy. They have no insurance now, and decided to have a homebirth because of it. I highly doubt that they will be dragging a newborn off to the doctor to be circed and pay out of pocket....I am just hoping that the info will help to insure they don't.

I just wanted to share all of this because I have found that its a really non-threatening way to get the info out there. The book is great and it really answers all of the questions. Its easy to read, and it doesn't place any blame on the parents....it places it on the medical community who provide the service in the first place. Its great and its easy to share. Its nice knowing that the book will cover all of the bases and provide the info without having to get into a heated debate with someone.

I bought the DVD to share with people who I felt wouldn't bother to read through the info. The DVD is really about the ethics of circ. Its great if you haven't seen it. It does show a few clips of some circs which really help to get the point across.

This is an awesome idea! I usually just hand out NOCIRC pamphlets and such. Unfortunately, I missed your post where you spoke of this originally. Could you direct me to where you purchased these?

Thanks,
Pam

I bought the book What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Circumcision from Amazon.com It was about $16

The video I found on the noharm.org website. Its on their main page...just click on circ videos. It was $40, but worth every penny.
