Is there any place to discuss religious issues?

Specifically, people whose religion says they should circ, but who choose not to. I am interested in learning more about this. Does anyone have any resources?

Here is a thread in "Finding Your Tribe" that was created specifically for Jewish and Muslim Moms who choose not to circumcise their sons to discuss it and you can discuss religion all you want.

http://mothering.com/discussions/sho...d.php?t=239177

There also shouldn't be any interference from those who advocate circumcision. If there is any such as Private Messages, etc., report it to the authorities!

Religious Discussion??

Lilli, you bring up a good point. I'd be interested in that too. Was the thread that Frank mentioned helpful/what you were looking for?

I've been 'lurking' on this forum for months and have been reluctant to post until I've read all the threads on circumcision (almost 200?). What an eye-opener! I have already known much since I've been restoring since last June (TMI?), but The Case Against Circumcision has moved me towards being more 'activist' in my approach.

I am especially interested in the religious aspect of it since I am of Jewish descent (although I know nothing about the ritual in Judiasm(or hey, Islam for that matter!)) and also am a fundamentalist Christian. I also pastor a mid-sized congregation (several hundred) in a fundamentalist town. I led our young adult group into a study in the Bible book of Romans and at the end of chapter 2 we spent 3 separate studies looking at the meaning and value of circumcision throughout the Bible. Absolutely fascinating. While the study was very meaningful, (brought a lot of spiritual insights), yet it convinced me even more that there is absolutely NO Christian basis Whatsoever for Circumcision. Following that I began to be more openly against the procedure and I'm happy to say that two baby boys due this summer from two different families (obviously!) will be born intact. :-)

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but there is a great website that does discuss the issue of jewish circumcision in depth. It's jewsagainstcircumcision.

Hope that helps.

I believe circumcision as related to religion can be discussed on the Spirituality forum here on MDC.
I know that religious circumcision can be discussed at the Religious Studies forum, but unfortunately, if you try to take an anti-circ. approach there, you will be flamed by all the religious circ'ers there. It is NOT a friendly forum for intactivists.

Here's a list of pro-intact religious links I'm offering, without comment or debate. :-)

That's not true. I posted an anti-circ and never was flamed. I would guess it would be based on how you word the topic. I used "How to approach pro-cir partner if your anti circ" or something to that effect. I wasn't flamed at all. I guess since they knew pro would be flaming. MDC is a rather friendly place all in all. Good luck!

I stuck my foot in my mouth several times, made errors in what I wrote (not intentionally), and participated in heated debates--- but I still don't think that anti-circ gets flamed there. I think every one got closed for review too.

Suggesting that religious circ is the same as routine or cultural circ. or suggesting that religious circ be banned/made illegal might get you flamed-- but if you don't understand a little bit WHY that causes such a strong reaction then I think one doesn't know enough about the issue.

Hope that makes sense.

If you go there you will meet some very informed, anti-circ parents that have circumcised only for religious reasons. (waving hello to those that are on this board).

I know I learned a lot from every exchange, even though I find it very challenging and frustrating because in the end we still disagree.

Thanks for the direction...

Fyrestorm, thanks for the direction to jewsagainst circumcision. I'll check it out. And I'll also check out the spirituality forum on mdc (thanks TechnoGranola). And whoa, Jen, it may take me a while to get thru all the links you shared (kinda like drinking from a fire-hydrant)--but thankyou for sharing them--I will look thru them.
